10 weeks/ sick lethargic

I think the sooner he starts eating a complete feed the sooner he will start to get his strength back.
I would not put him back with the flock yet.

I think if you take 1/4 cup of feed and wet is a little then mix a scrambled egg into it he might want to eat more?
Try it.

I’ll start doing that! He’s definitely too weak to go back. I’ll wait for more activity and solid poops! Should I continue to take him out and dip his beak to drink? He doesn’t seem to drink unless I sit there with him. He also seems to eat more when I go in to check on him. Is that because I wake him. I’ll sit in there and watch him eat and then make him drink. I find it odd and also feel like if he’s getting better he would just naturally do this. I bought some artificial turf on amazon. I want to be prepared next time if this ever happens again!

Could it be that he is drinking and eating on his own when you are not watching him?

Measure the food and water containers.
See if you notice them going down on their own.

I think it is good to continue to encourage him to drink and eat for now.

So the dandruff I had mentioned earlier is still pretty bad. It’s shed feather shafts. What would cause that? Still sitting on his hocks, shaking. He’s started chirping more. It’s jusr hard to see him so weak and shaking. Of course my other worry is if I possibly got any syringe feed in his lungs. Signs to look for for that? Also would he be too weak to deworm? Should I repeat nutri drench syringe tomorrow too? Thanks ladies

More poop. He does this after I force food and water. Other poop in cage was more solid

The not eating could possible be causing him to molt.

I think if you were to have forced stuff "down the wrong pipe" he would be dead already.

Too weak to deworm.

Repeat Nutri is fine.

How much is he eating?

Ok makes sense and good about not aspiration into lungs. Phew. It’s hard to say how much he’s eating but I would say pretty small amount. I put about 1/2 yoke with chick food mixed w bone broth and he takes about 5 bites about 3 tines a day when I go and force him to eat. Then he eats a 3 or 4 times just dry chick food. He’s started rubbing his beak and scooting the food around and making a mess. You know typical chicken stuff Haha but he’s still very weak. A few times he’s felt “hot” ? I’m just throwing lots of little things at ya to see if there’s anything else I can do. Would it make sense to check on him more frequently? I’ve been doing about 3 times a day that I get him out and force feed. Partly because I have 2 small children, a cat and dog who won’t leave me alone. and partly because I don’t want to over do it and not let him rest. Also in your opinion since I caught him the day he had diarrhea how long does a typical bird take to recover. Is this normal from what you have heard other people say? I guess I’m waiting for the morning I wake up and he’s his normal wild self

If he has coccidiosis and if he takes in enough of the Corid /water mixture he should be better in a few days.

It's really a guessing game.

If he isn't eating and drinking enough he could take for ever to get better...or not.

I just sat and watched him eat chick finisher for close to 10 mins and then drink. I will set an alarm to go in and visit with him more. When well and introducing back to flock would it be better to do at night or during the day with free ranging. He has 2 sisters who I hope will remember him. Or to be safe should I do the cage in coop? Thanks!

Just wanted to say that I am following your thread and praying for little Rudy. He is so cute I can tell he is a special guy. It’s easy to see why you love him so much! I will continue my prayers for him and hope he has a full and speedy recovery.
