Yes, it is. If to hover over their member name it will give you the option to pm. It is best used for things that are hot topics or you don't want public. There are a few GMO threads on here however I haven't looked at them so I don't know if they offer what you are looking for. On a topic like that I would think they would be pretty hot threads.

Ok, so, I put the broilers out today. They flew around the front yard and ran like little kids on the playground. While they were doing that, I got the dog kennel run ready for them, since we will have fabulous weather.

Here is what they are in right now.

Thanks to Harbor Freight and the FREE tarp coupons for the month of February, I was able to get 5 free tarps and I used them on this kennel.

The temps right now is 50 degrees. I just checked on them and they are sleeping close together but they look to be ok. I don't have a heat lamp on them but I think they will be ok. This kennel has a sand run, so I'm curious to see how the sand and poop works together.

I had 2 losses since yesterday and 1 injured today. On yesterday when I returned home, I found 2 of them squished. I had a top on their brooder to keep the warmth in and it looks like they pushed against the the brooder wall which made the top fall down in the brooder and it smashed one of the broilers. I also had a runt that got stepped on and it died. I'm not sure what happened to the one that is injured. All of the animals were out when I put them out but I didn't see any fighting. The injured broiler had a peck on it's head and it's chest has a small hole in it and it's chest was covered with blood. I think I will put it don't. I"m not sure if I'll be able to save it. It's still walking around but I don't know how severed the injuries are. I'm just getting inside and I am about to go and examine the injured broiler. I did not put it outside with the others. I have it in the brooder inside.

The larger broiler that was smashed weighs about 2 lbs. I will pluck it and process it to see how much meat is on it. I may get less than 1 lb of meat but I am curious to see what a broiler that small with dress. May not be worth it but at least I will know. I will keep everyone posted.

Quote: I appreciate this discussion, too. I have many concerns about how genetic manipulation thru gene splicing can cause as many problems as it can solve. That is it p rimarily profit driven is my greatest worry. Years ago White RIce was changed to include the ability to make Vitamins A in the rice grain and hte grain had a yellow coloring-- the result was a significant decrease in VIt A deficiency and vision problems among those that ate a lot of this. It was presented as a good thing 25 years ago-- I don't know how this was done. Knowing so many of the problems this also causes, I'm no longer conviinced it is the best course of action.

More land could be used for food production. I drive by lawns and porches and I think of the bountiful harvest that is possible IF a person wanted to. ANd fresh and organic. I would like to see more people producing some of their own food for those reasons. I am also reaching for the very old seeds and breeds.

Very interesting.... I am trying to figure out a title for a thread for the discussion that will be dispassionate and informative enough to wade through anything that might be pseudo science. So far no luck... Because its a VERY polarizing topic.
