1588

The Genses 1588 comes calibrated to 99.5ºF You should not worry about temperature, i like to keep the humidity 35 - 45 %

I recomend you to go to walmart and get a Digital Termometer hydrometer combo

This is the best

Avoid to buy the Accurite they are junk , good for nothing

After you get the thermometer/hydrometer , you need to caliblate the hydrometer usig the salt method

you will need
1 Coffee mug
1 Ziplock plastic bag
1/2 cup of salt
1/4 cup of water

First put the salt in the cup
second pour the water inside teh cup
thirt put cup in ziplock bag
last place hydrometer inside the bag

let it sit for 24 hours in a draft free place

if the hydrometer is pefectly calibrated it should read 75% humidity, Most hydrometers are not 100% acurate
but once you know what reading you have , you can add or substract the diference

for example
if your hydrometer read 70% you know that is 5% off, so when you place it in the incubator , whatever it reads you have to add 5%, if it read 40% is acctually 45%

Hope this is not confusing you

Gotta say I have to disagree that the accurites are junk. I've had very good luck with them......they've all monitored many hatches for me.

I have one, this is only my second hatch and one day I would like to try another incubator just for the sake of curiousity, but till then, I'm content - I can't get too out of control with it for one thing (only 42 spaces to fill) haha!

I'm keeping mine at 99.5 and then I try to hover around the 40% humidity, I usually have two hygrometers and two thermometers going on just to be sure and I plan to go 65% for lockdown.

My last hatch (and first) was a mixed hatch, I had ducks and turkeys in there too, I kept the humidity higher because of the duck eggs and I think for a first time I did pretty good, I had a 70% hatch overall (100% on the ducks), so I've brought the humidity down considerably this time round since it's all chicken eggs.

I TRY to candle at 7 days, but on the white eggs, I can't - I'll look as soon as 3 or 4 days and if there is something beginning in there, you can see it - haha. The brown ones I don't bother for awhile...

Good Luck! You get it tomorrow?

Did you test it with the salt method? and is 75%?

Accurite reads temperature just fine but is way off in the humidity

I dare you to try the springfield and compare

I gotta jump in a little late. But i love our hovabator 1588. 3 days ago we had a 75% hatch rate on 40 coturnix eggs. They got shipped from TN to southern NV too. And everyone is happy, healthy and thriving. We had so much fun. I would defiantly recommend it to a beginners like me and my mother.

Since I have close to 100% hatches with my own eggs....and over a long period of time and many hatches, not just one or two hatches, I don't see the need to change what equipment I'm using.
