16/8 Intermittent Fasting, has anyone tried it?

AFAIK anything under 1200 calories puts your body into starvation mode and can make you choose carbs for volume over fats at a calorie-counting cost. People are proving great health & wellness benefits when it’s the other way around.

If you look hard enough you might find a facility with a machine that measures your individual metabolism through your breath. That’s a great place to start.
I know I am, the red meat, eggs and bacon, saturated fats, is bad for you myth, is finally getting some real scientific studies done. The human body, naturally produces cholesterol. What most of the doctors don't understand or are unwilling to accept from their formal teaching is, the large size lipoproteins are good, it's the small particle lipoproteins that are bad and cause the trouble of blocked arteries. Due to the AHA, and the AMA's practice of accepting "donations" from the big food manufactures, ie, General Mills, Kellogg, Proctor&Gamble, etc...and big pharma, they feel they have to go along with the decades long propaganda that had been put out by those institutions.
Giving a prescription for cholesterol lowering medicine, blood pressure medication, etc, etc, is a windfall for big pharma and for the manufactures of the high carb, sugar products getting doc's to promote a healthy diet of carbs, ie, whole wheat bread, rice, etc, instead of promoting 'whole foods', they are promoting processed foods.

I know now if I eat any kind of carbs or any kind of sugars, (even natural sugars) my body let's me know right away. Through my past eating habits, I became T2D. I have reversed it by going strict carnivore but if I do consume any amount of carbs or sugar, the symptoms return immediately.
Carnivore diet isn't for everyone but it certainly has change my life....for the better.

I really want to get on board, but I have food anxiety as a result of smoking cessation. Any advice on dealing with this and making the leap?
For me, quitting smoking was easy, wish I had done it years ago, I did it "cold turkey". Quitting sugar was/is the hardest thing I have ever tried to overcome. That's why I say, "Sugar is addictive", it should be regulated like Class 1 drugs.

and sugar is more addictive than nicotine....it should be regulated as a class 1 drug.
Read the book, The Case Against Sugar. It's eye opening.

What is T2D? I don't recognize that abbreviation.

I haven't mentioned any specific diet to my hubby. He needs to lose about 15-20 lb, and I'd like to lose about 10-15. I think since some of his clothes are tighter now, he's kind of conscious of the issue.

I went GF about 5 years ago. He isn't. I was recently looking into a paleo diet, but I haven't even thought of mentioning that to him. He surely wouldn't go along with that.

At every physical I've had, my blood sugar has been fine. But man oh man, I can feel it when it's crashing, and if it goes far enough, I'm shaky, and can turn into a real grump.

This time of year, I could probably do 15/9, easily. In the summer when it's light at 5:30 am and stays light till 9 pm, I'd have more trouble. I get up about sunrise so that I can let the chickens out, and I have to lock them up at sundown. (An auto door is not an option with my coop.)

I'm not making excuses! Whoever said that the mornings got easier ( not wanting to eat the table! I know how that is!), thank you for the encouragement.

When I was young, this was definitely the case, not eating enough to maintain brain and organ function sent my body into starvation mode. I am in my sixties now, my metabolism is so slow, I am slow, :D I probably don't need more than 1,500 calories a day even considered how much exercise I get. (I walk and row daily.) So if I eat more than 1,100 calories, it would take a year to lose 10 pounds! :D Granted, a year is hopefully going to pass for me, :D but with my slow metabolism, honestly I am not craving any sweets or carbs, lets just get on with some weight loss.

And something I have noticed already after 1 week of doing this fast, it seems so have reset my carb craving, I feel as if its stabilized what ever hormone is responsible for these cravings, its weird but I feel more balanced every day.

Yes, I did with 16/8 and it not only helped to lose some extra pounds but to improve some of my chronic autoimmune issues, lifting the occasional brain fog as well.
Cutting down on carbohydrates like bread, pasta and sugar helped to reduce bloating and cravings.
For me it was/is important to consume enough animal protein (eggs, dairy products, meat).

I can highly recommend it, but people with severe health conditions should seek the approval of their doctors first.
Fabulous that this has helped you so much! I have pollen allergies year round around here and my body and sinuses never get a break. But I am definitely noticing less allergy symptoms, (autoimmune system is probably behind much of my suffering). My hubby has a lot of inflammation (another autoimmune thing) and he is hoping to see some relief. So I am glad you mentioned the autoimmune improvement.

I have been doing a 14 to 20 hour fast since I had my myocardial infarction. I'm on a carnivore diet(nose to tail) and at first it was hard to not eat carbs, and sugar is more addictive than nicotine....it should be regulated as a class 1 drug. :lau After the withdrawal from the carbs and sugar past, (head aches, muscle aches), I feel much better and don't crave the carbs or sugar. I eat enough to be comfortably full, then I take a nap! :D
I'm not interested in loosing weight, I'm not over weight but I have noticed the changes in my body. Cutting out the carbs and sugar has made my body lose alot of water retention weight. And I don't have the need to eat 3 meals a day like I use too!
Fasting has been the biggest influence on my health since my MI.
Living, eating like my ancestors, has been the best thing I have decided to do for my health.

This is great Sean, I am so glad you are getting great results! You talk about eating like our ancestors...Not only did ancient man eat a lot more meat, but he didn't have access to food 24 hours a day like modern man. He ate one day, whether that be meat, berries, roots, (what ever he could find) and may not have eaten for 3 more days. During this time he fasted. And this is the beauty of this entire thing, eating what we need and giving our bodies a break. They say this "break" we don't give our bodies is a contributing factor to the rise in diabetes.

Everyone's body is wired up differently, no two people will thrive on what they consume every day. I am glad you found what works for you. :)

I hope you can over come this fear of over eating and stop smoking. I definitely wouldn't try a diet change and stopping smoking at the same time though, too much stress on all of you. You might work on stress relief via meditation, acupuncture, exercise, other avenues while quiting smoking?

I did stop smoking 25 years ago, but I think my food anxiety is related to it. I can avoid overeating by eating regularly. If I fast, though, I want to overeat.
