Waiting on 4 GA Del's 3 suedlettes and 10 PA Del's to at least pip. Moved six of the GA dels to the brooder box and they are sooooo cute the way they are cuddled and cleaning each other they are very responsive to our voices when we cheep to them they stand up and cheep back

.
The PA Del that is in ICU is doing real well flapping it's wings and being very active, when it was hatched I did not believe that it would survive, but I guess God had other plans, thankfully

two of the small pullet eggs have died they had pipped but were not able to get out of the egg when I checked them they were both no longer breathing.
It is so hard to know when to help and when to not, I think if I had tried to help sooner I may have been able to save them. it had been 14 or so hours since they had pipped but I never saw the membrane dry out, it was still moist even though they were dead which to me indicates that they just did not have enough room not that they got shrink wrapped and stuck. is there a majic number after the pip, that the chick has absorbed the yolk but is still not too tired that you guys use to know when to help? not to early not to late? these are the first full term hatchlings that I have lost and I am quite unhappy that I did not do more to save them

It's always a hard call to make. There is no magic number. I even let them go 24 hours after first pip usually before we make the decision whether to help or not. You didn't do anything wrong. Could be they just weren't strong enough. I'm sorry, but just think ahead to the others.
