I just had my female lay an egg for the first time yesterday afternoon. This morning I went out and there was one and when I went out a few minutes ago there was another egg. I know that I have 2 males and 1 female in the cage so I am confused. Is it because she is new to this and is popping them out like a pez dispenser or do some lay 2 eggs a day?

I had 8 female cortunix in a pen ,fed them laying crumbles and kept a light on them .Iwould regularly get from 10 to 13 eggs from them , from midnite to midnite .I have never seen one lay 2 eggs that close together .Sounds like you may have 2 fem. and 1 male ..I have had females try to crow , and act like a male .They usually turn agressive and scalp the male.

That's interesting. I will have to see if I can catch them crowing again. They only crow in the mornings and I never see them do it.

It is rare, however poultry can lay more than one egg in a 24 hour period. I have never had any of my quail do it as far as I know, but I have a Black Australorp chicken hen that occasionally will lay 2 eggs in the same 24 hours. Many times the second one has no shell on it.

I have a valley pair the female has laid two eggs in one day three times this month
