2 Roosters

I have had chickens for about 4 years, so I'm still learning about the various chicken behaviors. I have a question about what happens when you have 2 roosters. My first rooster, Peter, has been leader of the flock for a couple of years now. The newest roo, Ernest (born 9/1/06 during Tropic Storm Ernesto!) is trying desperately to claim some of the hens, to no avail. If I get new pullets, will Peter automatically claim them as his own too, or will Ernest get a chance to start his own little harem? There seems to be much competition between the two roos and I don't have enough space to completely separate them.

Depends, the older one may nab the new pullets or the new pullets may be so afraid of the older hens in the flock that they stick to the new roo till they can stand their own against the hens. Hard to say. The two roos will figure it out eventually at who is on top and who will be second in line.
