In the Brooder
Thanks! I used to breed show rabbits. Those were some of my show stock satin angoras and their baby. I miss my rabbits. I got out of breeding them a couple years ago. Now I'm on to chickens!

Adorable!
Last week I had on a pair of camo shorts. We headed out on errands and when I got out of the truck at Lowe's I look down and the whole right pocket was soaking wet. My first thought was,"What the heck??" And then the lightbulb went on... a squished quail egg. Luckily I had a pair of leggings in tbe truck so was able to go into the restroom and change clothes. Lol That was the 1st time I forgot and actually got squished in public.hahaI often go collect eggs in shorts with big pockets. Great for collecting some eggs...not so great when a 70 pound dog greets me with a bear hug on my way to put the eggs away. We've only had one or two pocket squishes so far, messy!
At this point I'm at a loss............Total of 5 pips yesterday/day early. First one literally pipped, zipped and was out and running. The other 4 ..........wait........wait.....finally around midnight I open and check bator eggs.....the ones left that pipped was overdue. They were shrink wrapping. Even the inner membrane was dry! Hygrometer says 75 on one and yes, 80 on the other one...started trying to keep the 65 but it actually LOOKED too dry in there. Maybe I should just go by initial feelings and toss the hygros........
I turned OFF the fan, wrapped the little ones in burritos ....this morning they were all out and ready to face the day. There are 15 eggs!!
Seriously getting frustrated. I am going by all the great info and had everything fine tuned...bator set and stabile.
So, am wondering about these last 10 eggs. MAYBE THE FAN was too much for the area? We'll see. I'm ordering yet more hygro's. If I take the middle of all of them surely something will be right.........I am thinking about putting a hole in one of the remaining 10 due today to make sure they are wet.....with the fan off there is now humidity on the bator so this could be the culprit.........
The burritos were clean hatches, the shells were dry but babies were ready. I hope I can get this all fine tuned before I give up on hatching.....
If you ever have more of those peafowl eggs I would be very interestedjs lol.
I'll let you know![]()
The peahens may be done for the year, or they may surprise me with one more round of laying. If so, I will be selling every egg, cause I've hatched enough of those this year!
I have Runner duck eggs year round if you need any of those!![]()
This apron is full of imperfections. I didn't really measure or iron or pin anything. It will probably hold up to daily use and washing. It has two quilted pockets that should each hold about 6 chicken eggs. The large center pocket can hold lots of other goodies. I'm not a professional seamstress, and I wouldn't exactly call it etsy quality. Is this good enough for a donation?

LOVE IT!!! I like having my hands free!!! and to be honest my chest is too big to have one that comes up over the neck AND I hate things around my neck, I know I am weird and not able to win it anyways, but just saying WHY I love it! plus I love the design and colors! I think we will do your apron and Cynths dish for prizes for the Pumpkin carving contest. Is there anyway we can get an image of it on someone, but without a face maybe? LOL not a big deal I can use those if not! This apron is full of imperfections. I didn't really measure or iron or pin anything. It will probably hold up to daily use and washing. WELCOME~~~~!!!!!!I'd like to join! I set eggs 4 days ago. So a little sooner then the 10th! Lol. But am actually thinking about having DH build an incubator with me this weekend, or at least buy another small one (48 egg capacity). We set some barnyard mix eggs. We set 48, some are silver sebright eggs. The rest are a mixture of what we have free ranging for a while, giving them a break before going back to their separate pens! We have: Lavender Orps, Lavender Ameraucana, BBS Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, French Black Copper Marans, Dominiques, real Araucanas (white), various bantam cochin varieties, mille Fleur D'Uccles, Silver Sebrights, Salmon Faverolles, sizzles, silkies, Cuckoo Marans, and then red sexlinks and other barnyard mix hens. We also have 3 varieties of turkeys.
We (me & DH) are chicken addicted! It's all we seem to talk and think about. We have about 150-200 birds and all of them have names, lol. We enjoy our feather babies. Lol.
lol looks like Lucy my moms weimer
We did 7 day candle on day 8 (because my husband wanted to see/watch) Very fun to watch them moving around! Can see a little in the marans eggs, some blood vessels but still difficult to make out. Lots of fun!
That sounds like a good plan! Our eggs go into lockdown on our wedding anniversary. Almost accidentally had chicks on our anniversary! lol. We would have had to stay home. So it worked out well. I candled yesterday and had 100% fertility and all but 2 eggs had healthy veins starting to show. So I'm hoping for a really good hatch!
thank goodness it SEEMs to be over here, although just two days ago the humidity was horrid! The summer heat is KILLING ME!![]()
I just noticed, your in Montgomery where my Mother inlaw is fromI'm in Southern Alabama, so I feel ya. Luckily it's 62 outside so finally, the air conditioner is off and the windows are open. We are enjoying it for sure!! And so are the chickens, dogs, cats and turkeys!!
ditto!Cool I love your pro pic it's so cute.
ditto and I cant tell you how many times I threw eggs I didnt want to keep for some dumb reason or another,(like I accident y cracked or something) and did a girly throw and threw them and hit something like my shed roof or ummmm hubs car or my sons car rack that shouldnt be still sitting aside the tree at my house ANYWAYS! LOLVery cute. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've stuck a quail egg in my pocket and forgot it was there until....squish lol

This is amazing! And you don't sew?
@kdunn, Kalua in your coffee kinda day?. Nice way to put it...I've had a few of those myself. It's raining pretty hard here, is that reason enough? Although I am scheduled to carpool Girl Scouts later this afternoon, may have to wait till after dinner.![]()
The pilgrims are laying again & my bator is down for the season. Anyone interested in eggs please let me know. $3/egg plus shipping if needed, or pick up near Lewisville, Ohio. Pix of parents in comments.![]()
