So sad day. My husband was "helping" me put the eggs in the 'bator, and bumped my arm as I was picking up one of the D'uccle eggs. And of course it was too broke to "fix". So we decided to check for fertility. And it was fertile. So one gone from the little eggs, put the marans egg in the bator for now. deciding if I want to keep it or not. It is by it's lonesome in a corner. I've made sure no eggs are in the surrounding few spots. So out of 36: 1 an early goner because of a stupid accident, and 1 possible before arrival. Oh well, such is life.

Love this kind of stuff..thanks for posting. I watched just a while back when we were having all of those meteors coming down. Falling stars. :) A lot, it was great.

I am IN! How can I resist spending some time with Sally? I have. Broody hen, I don't think I want to wait until the 10th... I'll hold off another week perhaps, she's been sitting for almost a week now and just started growling at me yesterday so I think I can hold off a little bit.

I was just thinking about you!!!!   YAY!!!!

Thank ya DAHLING!! You remembered.. :hugs

I had that happen earlier this year.  They were the first egg bombs I ever had.  Within just a couple of days of incubation they started to stink.  I eventually tossed the whole tray because every day for the first week there were one or two more.

Oh no! I have 13 left, fingers and toes crossed at least some of the eggs are still viable!

Ok, I'm guessing it's .... your birthday???
Love it! Thank you. It was day full of family and fun. Also got 22 birds bled and cooked down lots of tomatoes for sauce. Best birthday ever! Sally, would you travel to Ephrata? I got a guy there who processes my birds $1.40/each, let me know if you're interested. He processes on Tuesdays and you need an appointment before hand, I'm happy to pass on the info.

The drill ones aren't really that great. It's not optimal especially if you have fryers, but can you just skin them this year then build a plucker next year?

I ended up processing a turkey that jumped wrong and ruptured his aorta. I hand plucked, and did not scald. Even with growing in pinfeathers, it went quickly. I just cut off the wing tips as those are the hardest feathers of all. The rest just peel off. If you get a pair of fish scaling gloves, it goes really fast.
uggggg I was hoping they would work!! I would hate to waste so much in skinning so many, there are 26 cornish X and at least 3 CCL roosters, 4 CCL hens. I have a bunch of serama that would be ok to skin. Its was not much fuss raising these meaties at all, I thought they would be really gross and stuff from what everyone was saying but I can easily see us doing more than this once a year so it may be best for us to invest in a plucker, I wish we could rent one somewhere though! wouldnt it be nice if TSC rented them! I dont have the room to store one either! but I guess I could MAKE more room!

wow you had a very busy day girl! Thats fairly far, I just found a guy in Myerstown, menonite of course, he called me back and I was in the shower, will try to call them again to see their prices. If not thank you for another option. I have to find that link to the video on the processing thread on how to quarter the birds again, I forget how if I do it myself!
