Or if she cuts it..bald..why isn't that baby blinking? It needs to blink.

Well, on a scary note. I have some Silkie in, will go into lock down come Monday. I have 6 out of 8 eggs doing well. One with a real high air sac .. in that tiny egg. I have hatched hers before. Always fertile, have had good hatches..last hatch, not so good. Those heads were high vaulted! They just couldn't turn. I have hatched silkies forever, I thought I knew all the tricks..thought I was doing it right again. What happened? Anyone else on here hatch silkies? Have any tips on why your hatches works so well...other than, they come from your back yard? Yes, these are shipped. :/ The air sacs actually look pretty good this time, just that one has me worried. This is the scary part, only got one baby out of 6 that went into lock down last Time. Hoping that I don't get the same results. Two had quit around day 20, soooo close!

did you candle the pointed end of the eggs at all? sometimes the veining never gets far enough around the egg and the embryo doesnt have enough room to grow and quits early in shipped eggs. Most people only candle from the top of the egg and never even notice the entire growth in the eggs.

If you go into the diary thread and scroll back through from the BACK to where I hatched silky ducks you should find info on that candling. And what it can tell you if you want to know. This weather keeps shutting my internet down!

and NOT touching! this explains A LOT of what is going on in there! and it takes time, A LOT OF TIME!!! and hatch time is so testing a person!!! I get so antsy, and I have to zip my mouth on BYC because I can tell when people intervene, I see these posts and they say, I didnt touch it, I found it this way,

, its so obvious and so unfortunate for the chicks! They worry when they see the pip they think after a few hours, OMG OMG OMG its not doing anything... then they start to pick, just a little they think, then a bit more and then.... oh man!!!! sometimes it DOES take a day after it pips!! see the video I posted in the article I am going to post here: so READ READ READ!!

OMG I wish I had my breakfast eggs in a bag yesterday! errrgggg DH!!!! he is the WORST EGG collector EVER!!! the worst stinky egg in the world I could have paddled him!!! but he would have liked it too much the brattt!!!! grossssssss he is too scared of broody hens!!!! the wooooooosss

LOL!!! Trying to read up on why they hatch early so now it seems the heat is a bit high? OMG I have 3 thermometers/hygrometers in there they better be right by now

One little WS pipped and zipped and checked on it, was out of the shell. Must think it's a race...........I am doing hands off totally. If they are too weak they stay there this time. Too hard to see them go later.

Wow, seems everyone has had high humidity this year..........we had record rainfall, well, that followed record snow/temps for here so sure makes me wonder what type crazy weather we'll all be posting into the weatherproofing areas.......

There is a TON of info HERE:

If you have LOW TEMPS during the first 12 days, it obviously it will cause lack of weight loss, as will HIGH HUMIDITY, in turn cause the chorio-allantoic membrane to remain unclosed and never reach the pointed end of the egg.....
Empty shells - a valuable source of information http://www.pasreform.com/academy/fr...-shells-a-valuable-source-of-information.html

Everyone knows how hard a silky duck is to hatch, they are hard because of weight loss, seen in this video, the second image you will see a un-closed membrane the embryo did die.

If they are hatching fine without issues, you dont have an issue! During hatching you should turn heat down a bit though try 99 so they dont have to work so hard to get out. I say 99 because I am not so sure of your thermometers lol

Empty shells info..very helpful..thanks!

And, no thanks on the wine. I don't drink! But I can still boogy.

It's 99 forced air. One just decided to race out. The other two early pips are resting I suppose....And, company is coming to chicken set while we are gone....all the bators and bins were guess where??? LOL! Busy day and a good one.
