Every egg I candled, which was around 6, were all fertile! I have 34 eggs. EE's. Tomorrow is day 7. Yaay. :) Will candle all of them around day 14.

Hello All!
I set 18eggs on the 13th, so I'll be hatching a few days after Halloween. My first time incubating and I'm so excited! The hens are white leghorns, buff orps and EE's.(2 each) They we covered by either a blue, splash or red bantam Cochin roo. My little guys sure know how to cover the big girls:) All of the eggs are showing great veining but 2.(think they are infertile) Also, should I be watching for day 19 hatching since they are bantam crosses or the standard 21 days?

Welcome! I also have some eggs set that were covered by a little frizzled blue bantam. Those will hatch just before Halloween.

The little ones can hatch anywhere from day 18 to day 21..just like LF!

I have some EE's that are due on the 3rd of Nov. So, there will be a few of us that will be hatching some late ones too.

Thanks! I'm kind of nervous but temps and humidity have been holding well......I can't wait to see what they look like:)

Well I can't hatch right now because I don't have things set up to deal with the babies. My homemade incubator is needing some TLC so I think I will fix some things and replace the thermostat and run tests. I need to work out a better method of keeping the humidity stable and add a system that allows me to add water without opening the lid.

Ya'll I'm not in the contests. Just reading posts and this is a fun group!! I have an egg candling question though..........

The week my grandmother passed away I set some new eggs in the bator.........I was in shock a good bit and did NOT date them. I've been looking over the candling pics on this site thats from hours to hatch old. Does the pointy end always get totally dark at day 18-19? Or is there some clear/veins still showing in there?

The eggs are dark, have good air sacs and I am at a loss on when to lock down........feeling really dumb but oh well.............

You are in the HAL if you have eggs incubating this month. You don't have to have them set for Halloween day.

There have been many times that I lost track for whatever reasons, and didn't stop turning the eggs or raise humidity until I saw the first pip. It worked out fine.

Looking forward to hearing about your hatch :)

Question:

I have an empty hovabator 1588 that I'm hoping to fill on the 21st, so I've been running it to see if it's stable. The thermometer I placed inside says the temp is 99.5 and the digital reader says 100.1 or 100. Also the digital humidity says between 35% and 40% and my hygrometer that I put in it says 60% (it's a reptile aquarium hygrometer)

Should I adjust the temp or the humidity? I was thinking I could add less water and then see how they look at day 7 when I candle, but I don't know if they lose too much moisture it they can get it back?

I've never done this before so all help is appreciated.
