I have accepted the possibility that none of my eggs will hatch. Just had to switch them back to the Genisis, LG was grossly inaccurate. My poor eggs.

Awwww....

What did the latest candling look like?

Remember, if you have your incubator trustworthy enough, I can have fresh eggs to you in like three days.....It will be as if your eggs took 5 weeks instead of three...

Got my first ever chicks today foyr hatched two to go how long ca n they go without food and water

You are in the HAL if you have eggs incubating this month. You don't have to have them set for Halloween day.

There have been many times that I lost track for whatever reasons, and didn't stop turning the eggs or raise humidity until I saw the first pip. It worked out fine.

Looking forward to hearing about your hatch :)

Thank you TJ! They're really close. Some are dark down to the pointy end, others still a bit more fluid like in there... I'll watch for pips with popcorn lol
. I'm really sorry to hear you lost your grandmother.

Keep your fingers crossed! Eggs can be pretty resilient.

I did the ice bath test (I had to put them in a zip lock bag so the cardboard backs would get wet) one reads low, and one is accurate, the digital one matches the accurate one.

The salt test for the hygrometer is pending, is reads 50% right now and has been in a sealed bag for about an hour.

Wow! You're really on top of this!

They are with their mom so she should look after them i fust dont want here to leave the other two eggs before they hatch
She will leave the nest within a day--Any eggs that may hatch will need to go into an incubator then.

Leave some chick starter close to new family.

Pictures Please!

Thanks. I just don't want any losses to be human error.

I know I'll have a lowish hatch rate since my eggs are from young birds, though I'm only going to set the eggs that aren't porous and are consistently a large size. I'll probably end up posting pics of eggs to see if they're good for hatching. Some of my chickens seem to be taking their sweet time increasing the size of their eggs. I just want to figure this thing out before I start trying to incubate important eggs.

I also have a (major) tendency to overplan everything that I can. I'm starting to think my second hygrometer is broken or just really inaccurate, the needle hasn't budged at all. Still reads 50% It's in a gallon size Ziploc with 2 teaspoons of damp salt..... Hmm.....

Ya'll I'm not in the contests. Just reading posts and this is a fun group!! I have an egg candling question though..........

The week my grandmother passed away I set some new eggs in the bator.........I was in shock a good bit and did NOT date them. I've been looking over the candling pics on this site thats from hours to hatch old. Does the pointy end always get totally dark at day 18-19? Or is there some clear/veins still showing in there?

The eggs are dark, have good air sacs and I am at a loss on when to lock down........feeling really dumb but oh well.............

Assuming the air cells are big enough or nearly so, I use the time when some begin to draw down as the signal to remove from the turner. Anytime after day 14 is generally okay, though, so if in doubt take them out.

Day 19/20 the egg will be nearly all obscured.
