Trying answer the age out question, does a watched egg ever hatch? I have one who rolled in the bator, encouraging. Still worried about the four that were dark but I could not see veins, late death, or just can't see veins that are there?

Lol, eventually. Maybe you can find something really fun to do for a few hours and return to find a nice surprise.

Just a suggestion.............don't miss the forum for too many days.......wow catching up is a challenge. I want to post a reply to all but can't keep up! :)

After seeing all the babies...........I may have to order some eggs to raise some purebreds till my Silkies lays more regular!! I've seen some gorgeous birds and now I want more.......

My babies are selling like crazy. I have 4 people coming over and had to start banding them to tell them apart

A couple of questions: What is a poo catcher? Hammock?? Yesterday it took over 4 hours to clean the coops and just cleaned it a few days ago. I have too many roosting lol.

Also, if you set eggs in a homemade bator while waiting on the next bator (I know..........past addiction now...) Can you prop the whole cooler at different angles during the day or do all eggs need turned by hand?? This one doesn't have an egg turner in it and am working on an old toy chest bator.

And last......................who raises Silkies on here and do you have any suggestions on their eggs hatching? I read they hatch earlier. BUT is it the same temps etc? My Silkie eggs did not hatch, I just got a cross out of the batch
Just catching up..like you were.

I have had many a silkie hatch. Some really good, some so so, and some really bad. I have learned, less humidity. Not only during incubation, but during lock down. I have some in for this Halloween hatch right now. I will not get my humidity up past 50 during lock down. I live in a dry area, even in the valley.

Sally, your dogs eat birds? I take it your birds are always in a run. Imagine that, Springer Spaniels wanting to catch a bird. They are flushing bird dogs, as you well know, and not pointers. Used to have an English Setter. They point, then retrieve, and hopefully they bring the bird back without having been mauled. Yes, had a dog back in the 70's was one of the best hunting dogs I've ever seen/had, very soft mouth. Loved her!

Sally, your dogs are beautiful! Love this one too!

They look fat and sassy. Wow, large litter? Or norm?

I feel for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had tons of rain this Summer. I had mites on the chickens, they got on the dogs and in my carpet and on me!!! UHG!!!!! I sprayed nests after cleaning before I put any straw back in, cleaned everything and the only thing that finally got rid of them was using tons of Sevin Dust on everything from nests, coops, under the trees where they dust, on them and yes, my carpet and pets too! What a chore that was and took two weeks.

Yep, good ol seven dust in those nest boxes..in your carpet? Should work!
I like using the spray on my birds, get this, from the pet store, that is used on indoor pet birds. I don't have a large flock though, so it's easy to keep up with them with this. But, do use the seven in the next boxes. :)

That's what i have to do. i usually go out and clean coops or mess with the pigs.

I haven't ever had pigs. But when we moved back to England,
My husband ran a pig farm for 3 years and we lived in the 15th century farm house, it was huge, it literally had an east and west wing. Heating it was awful. But I did have chickens and sheep there. I helped farrow plenty of sows, because I have small hands. I also brought in poorly piglets to give them intensive care. That farm was a wild experience.

Ok guys i have a question...its now day 22 1/2 and i have one chick that pipped for over 24 hrs and seemed to stop peeping so i began to help it and peeled the outer shell from over its head and zipped the rest of the way around. Its bottom and 60% of its body are still in the bottom of the egg. The veins have cleared. Its breathing steady but it still hasnt even like stretched its neck out from the position it was in before i removed the shell....could that be a "sticky" chick and if so would washing is in warm water (very carefully of course) help it get unstuck? Is there any hope for this chick or it is probably to weak to survive? Humidity is 65% and temp is 99.5....any advice is appreciated as this is my first hatch. Thanks!

Again, just catching up..maybe you have it out by now..but, once you start helping a chick out, you usually have to keep going, slowly but surely. Giving it time to absorb what is left to absorb, if you are seeing veins and yolk.
