2015 New York Chickenstock

By request, I have now added in my first post a list of what is being brought for the raffle and what is being brought for the potluck, as well as explanations of what each is so that new people know what's going on with them. I also added Nutty's special raffles. For the raffle, will tickets again be $1 each or 6 for $5? Just wondering so I can add that to my post and the document so people know. Both lists are a little sparse right now - in fact there is only one entry for the potluck list!

Ive done both types of meat birds and hands down...freedom rangers were the best for me.

The xcross grew as expected disgusting poop machines...never moved from the feeders and were just a bad experience;( 8 weeks start to finish

The freedom rangers were totally different..while they ate alot of food it wasnt sooo..Im going to kill you to get to the food type of bird. I also raised them on soaked goats milk grains and feed. We butchered at 8 weeks all though I would have loved to have gone another 2-4 weeks and I still think they would have been fine. At 8 weeks their feathers werent fully in like an adult so I knew they could have been raised longer. Last two weeks I kept them in smaller living area to rest the meat and add on weight. Nice birds, very sweet;( butchered out nice with full meaty bodies given their age. VERY delicious..Will do again for sure. im raising bresse this year and Freedom rangers to see the difference in growth and $...only difference is bresse take 4-5 months to grow to butcher weights.

Thank you. Did you keep the Freedom Rangers penned up the entire 8 weeks. My flock free ranges on my acre of land. Can these birds do it too ?

Absolutely!! My freedon rangers had a 20 x 20 outdoor pen for 7 weeks ish then an 8x8 pen for the last two weeks..there was only 6 of them because I wasnt sure howd I like them and didnt want to invest too much. Well worth it..how many are you talking free ranging on 1 acre? I also had fidder boxes growing..3x3 boxes of fresh white wheat grass fulltime as a suppliment besides goats milk soaked grain and regular feed and garden treats:) i knew what I wanted to eat come Fall and Winter so I really spoiled them:)

I have about 35 in my mixed layer flock, they have a huge fenced in area, about a quarter of my yard with acsess to the woods behind the house. I also have Australorps, SLW & Orps which are keep each in their own area and I rotate letting them out each day.

I was thinking about getting 6-10 Freedom Rangers. A friend had the Cornish X's a few summers ago...........UGH ! they were disgusting creatures. I also eat my xtra roosters, which I will take over X's anytime,

What type of grains do you use,and is raw cow milk ok ? I don't have acsess to goats milk

I just use black oil sunflower seeds, scratch, and sometimes oats...not sure about raw cow milk? I just have free goats milk from a friend who i give garden veggies too and she gives me milk;)

For meat birds I can get the Cornish X broilers the week before chickenstock or anytime before that along with the freedom rangers which will be a slower growing meat bird . The Broad breasted turkeys are going to be gotten the first week of May . So am taking preorders on these.

Ok will have Cornish X broilers for $2each for week old or younger if you want them older up to 4 weeks the prices go up for the amount of feed and electricity. I will have in them and are
2 weeks old $3.50each
3week old $5.50each
4weeks old $7.00 each

Freedom Rangers week old or younger $1.75 each
2 weeks old $2.75 each
3weeks old $3.75 each
4weeks old $4.75 each

Price for Broad Breasted turkeys 3-4 weeks old will be $8.50 each if you want them younger and can get them before Chickenstock when I get them the first week of May they will be $5.50 each

If you want any of these please let me know ahead of time so I order enough and I make sure to hold some for you as the Amish have already preordered 4000 of the Cornish X and I am sure that some that haven't preordered will want some so just want to make sure I have enough for everyone that's wants some

Nutty I would like to order: 10 - 1 week old Freedom Rangers. When would you like payment. If I really like these will you be getting more during the course of the summer ?
