Now , now. No one is stoopid. We all make mistakes. Such is life.

Lord knows there are a few who think they never make mistakes, but they only THINK they don't. The rest of us know better.

The book previously mentioned is

COLD Antler Farm, not broken as previously stated. ( I'm old these things happen. )

by Jenna Woginrich.

Now I will say this about Homesteading and I make no apologies. Most writers of books on Homesteading don't derive their sole financial situation from Homesteading. They get much of it from writing books on Homesteading. Many are contributors to magazines and such.

My last read, the female partner went back to school and became a doctor. She took up helping women birth their babies.

So what's your point Rancher, you might think?

Well it's this. Figure you will need some income that doesn't come from your homestead. Markets can be unpredictable, so you might need a part time job at least to pay the taxes on the stead.

As Ms. Woginrich states quite honestly she has little time for leisure if she is to survive.

Now all that said. Cold Antler Farm is north of Albany, NY. About an hour if I remember correctly from my reading. As I said I'm old.

I was thinking that it might be nice if we could get her to come to the 2015 Chickenstock and give a talk on Homesteading and her experience in dealing the matters including financial. I'm sure someone could contact her.

Perhaps she could sell and autograph her book. It's pretty good. It's held my interest anyhow. I think she'd have a lot of good experience advice for the ladies here.

Anyone have any input on the matter? Especially Nutty since she's hosting it this year. Some might consider coming early a day or staying later a day to help set thing up or clean up after. I could see this as becoming a big to do.

I tried to get someone who advertised on CL who offered to travel and do goat care, to come and give a talk but they didn't respond.

I considered getting a couple of sheepses at one time but I'd need someone to come and give advice and all that. So I let that idea die.

ta, ta for now, love ya,

Rancher

@Rancher, I think that is an awesome idea! I know I would be interested and might manage to suçcessfully motivate myself into making it to Chickenstock 2015. ;-)

Great idea Rancher! I just looked up the cold antler farm book on Amazon. Sounds interesting & I'm sure the author would be very interesting to listen to. She might have a speakers fee though. That being said, I'd pay $5-10 to hear her speak.

Maybe we can pay her in chickens?

She's in Washington county here in NY. It's and interesting read but I'm not sure I'm learning anything. Except perhaps if I'm going to start a homestead do it in a warmer climate.

hi, i hope this isnt a redindant question, but is there a list of what all birds there may be available at the meet up? I missed about a week of updates due to illness and nkw i'm kind of lost. I am interested in piçking up a few started pullets ~ presently living in Binghamton city limits so its 4 layers only & zero roo tolerance. I would like to get Sussex &/or Buckeye &/or Ameraucana/Ee. Though i hear conflicting reports concerning Buckeyes and smaller yards: some say they are very adaptable, others that they need to range. Anyone got experience with them? Its killing me, not having birds since moving "back home" in Deçember and leaving my micro floçk of 6 to friends in TN. Chicken math + Cabin fever = going stir crazy waiting for full time Spring, & none of these teasing 40° sunny days with 12° nights.i

There's a list of everything that everyone has said will be available so far in the second post on the first page :)
