The book previously mentioned is
COLD Antler Farm, not broken as previously stated. ( I'm old these things happen. )
by Jenna Woginrich.
Now I will say this about Homesteading and I make no apologies. Most writers of books on Homesteading don't derive their sole financial situation from Homesteading. They get much of it from writing books on Homesteading. Many are contributors to magazines and such.
My last read, the female partner went back to school and became a doctor. She took up helping women birth their babies.
So what's your point Rancher, you might think?
Well it's this. Figure you will need some income that doesn't come from your homestead. Markets can be unpredictable, so you might need a part time job at least to pay the taxes on the stead.
As Ms. Woginrich states quite honestly she has little time for leisure if she is to survive.
Now all that said. Cold Antler Farm is north of Albany, NY. About an hour if I remember correctly from my reading. As I said I'm old.
I was thinking that it might be nice if we could get her to come to the 2015 Chickenstock and give a talk on Homesteading and her experience in dealing the matters including financial. I'm sure someone could contact her.
Perhaps she could sell and autograph her book. It's pretty good. It's held my interest anyhow. I think she'd have a lot of good experience advice for the ladies here.
Anyone have any input on the matter? Especially Nutty since she's hosting it this year. Some might consider coming early a day or staying later a day to help set thing up or clean up after. I could see this as becoming a big to do.
I tried to get someone who advertised on CL who offered to travel and do goat care, to come and give a talk but they didn't respond.
I considered getting a couple of sheepses at one time but I'd need someone to come and give advice and all that. So I let that idea die.
ta, ta for now, love ya,
Rancher
