2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Pics
Devastating news for my ducklings. 7 died throughout the night! I'm just sick about it. I've brooded before, but never a large amount. The heat is on and doing well, it's a 125 w red bulb most ducklings were spread out in the brooder. 3 appeared very wet so I'm thinking they got splashed and chilled. 2 were under the heat lamp and 2 were in the cooler side of the brooder. I thought I might lose 2 that seemed weak, but this is terrible. They were hatched 5-31 and made it to me 6-2 in the afternoon.

I made sure all were drinking well. I'm a bit heart sick.
Im so so sorry TK10 that's awful. :hugs:hugs:hugsI agree you should contact the hatchery and tell them.

@Iain Utah @Pyxis
Thanks so much for all the advice, its greatfully received! Im still very much in the panicky, measure-everything phase so haven't learned to relax just yet!!:D ;)

Tk10, how much room did they have? I've had ducklings trample each other to death accidentally in the past.

So sorry! That's a big loss :(

Please contact the hatchery and let them know. Do you know what temps your brooder is running at?

So sorry for your loss.
I will. The brooder is at 95, though it is a cheap thermometer. But the ducklings aren't all huddled together not are they all spread out like too hot. I'm hoping I don't lose more, ugh. I've only brooded in 2 different groups of 6. I'm going to set up another water and continue to make sure they are drinking.

It's an oval tank probably 3 ft by 1 1\2 and 2 feet high.
Maybe I should set up both end to be warm and split them up? There are still 15.

Nannette, this is my first time weighing eggs too. Lol

I thought I had been doing it wrong until now!
I'm still not sure I'm getting it right tbh!
Everywhere I've read that people struggle to get their eggs to lose enough and there I am losing too much! I wonder if the weight loss slows in the last week? Plus I had to recalculate when I lost eggs that had quit. Thank god for my 13 year old daughter and her maths!!
I'll just have to keep monitoring and see what happens. They are more or less on track...
How about you, did you struggle with the maths in the end?

That seems like enough room for day old ducklings. I only put one side with a heat source so they can choose to go to it when they're cold. Usually the trampling happen over food or water in my experience.

Nannette, I let my husband do it. He's the math expert. Lmao

I haven't weighed them again yet. I will at Day 7 just to see where we are.
Fair enough! It's good to have someone to check it all over I think. 20170603_171812.jpg
I have just traced air cells etc as its day 21. Do you think they look ok?
