Thank you! Are there higher death rates with goose eggs versus duck eggs? I have zero experience but done a lot of research on them. My incuview lays them horizontal but will probably only be able to fit 14 eggs and I have 4 breeding pairs. I was considering getting the hovabator w the incuturn which works horizontally as well. The brinsea are nice but out of my budget and they seem small..like 9 goose eggs max.

I've got an Eco 40 now and mine will lay eggs that are on the smaller side so I'm hoping to be able to fit more in if I need to. Plus I have an LG I can use as a back up too if I have to (but I would rather not).

I wouldn't say higher death rates, but they are much fussier than duck eggs and require cooling, misting, weighing, etc. Did you read Pete's incubating guide? It's really nice and tells you exactly what to do.

Finally saw my geese mating yesterday, so it shouldn't be long before I start getting eggs. Seems to be right on schedule. Should have a decent amount of eggs with 5 girls laying & Hopefully some goslings when I get enough eggs. I'm expecting a litter of rabbit kits somewhere around the first part of March so that should keep me occupied while waiting to get enough eggs for the incubator.

Got my first goose egg yesterday. Guess they wanted to give me a valentines gift. 12 days earlier than last year and the year before. Might have to set the incubator up the first part of March instead of the middle.

Congrats still waiting here but they were in full mating mode yesterday so don't think it will be long.

I'm very suspicious about the fact that they have been laying for awhile. The egg was a first year goose egg but it wasn't her very first egg. It was well shaped not long & skinny and not a hint of blood anywhere. Way too small to be Stormy or Ethel's egg. I think it belonged to my young saddleback the way she was hanging around the nest. Hubby had been letting them out to roam every morning before work so I think they may have been laying outside. They would go out of sight of the house quite often. Over the weekend we decided to keep them penned a few days to see if eggs appeared. They can't hold eggs forever lol I've started searching for nests but who knows where they are I know they don't go near the woods in the top pastures but the small open area that they do roam is the yard & hay field and part of the lower pastures, that's about 20 acres. That's a lot of places to hide in.

The nesting box is done! My first attempt I accidentally cut the wrong angles into the wood, whoops! But this one is perfect. No eggs yet, but hopefully soon.
