Hi guys, needing some advice please - Jellybean has a very poopy butt, her actual butt/vent etc is clear and fine, it is only a collection of poop on her butt feathers, however it is hard, crustered and quite matted - she also has dirt mixed in with the poop from having dirt baths and hasn't cleaned herself . I tried gently wiping it off but it is stuck fast and her feathers are stuck together and matted. I have no idea how to clean or bathe a chicken, so would very much appreciate as much advice that you guys can give me i.e. tempreture of water, what to use to shampoo it so to speak and whether or not I should cut the matted feathers and also any after care needed and pretty much everything there is to know about cleaning her butt. I would very much appreciate any and all advice please as I dont want to try do anything without the knowledge and know how.
Thanks guys :)
P.S. Her eggs are coming out clean and I am certain there is no blockage nor any injury or infection, plus she is pooping normal and everything is as it should be potty wise.
Thanks again:)

I got the same thing with Duke. I never got to soak him. I think if you soak in water it will loosen up and be easier to clean.

Bathing isn’t too hard at all. Get a small tub of lukewarm water, you can even go a little warmer. Set her in and let her soak for at least ten minutes. If you let her stand on her own she’ll be quite calm. After ten min, get a small dime size amount of baby shampoo and start working the spot that’s matted. It should come right out. Rinse, then set her on a towel and promptly blow dry. The only thing you want to avoid is getting her earlobes and head wet. Blow drying takes a really long time, and you want to make sure she’s completely dry before putting her back out. I think it took me 45 min to blow dry my last bird so be prepared!

Thank you! And thank you for giving such great detail. I have an appointment tomorrow so I might leave it until Friday to make sure I give myself plenty of time. :)
