Bittersweet day! Gave nine out of my fifteen original birds away (they just turned 13 weeks old) Two of them were given away to a neighbor across the street, those two were killed by a mink last night. Feeling pretty bad as I wanted to help out a lonely hen there only to have them killed three weeks after giving them away. All mine are doing great and move in to their coop tomorrow thank goodness.

Mine are all doing well! They'll be 4 weeks on Wednesday.
Here are Nala and Belle, they like to sit on me because I'm warm.

Moana and Elsa are also lap chickens. The other three are less so. Anna doesn't care about anything but WORMS. Lilo is just shy, usually stays to the back and waits for everyone else to investigate first. Kida still isn't a fan of being picked up. Sometimes when she sees the lap chickens up on the side of the brooder she'll fly up and immediately realizes she actually doesn't want to be so high up and goes back down. (Im convinced she's afraid of heights) I've been working on getting her used to being picked up because she has grown some beautiful golden feathers from all that grey fluff!

I'm hoping to get them outside for some day trips this week. Their basement is 57° and our highs are around 40° It is supposed be in the 50s this weekend though.

Warm up already!!

Your girls are so sweet and friendly it seems! I can tell they love you. Wish I could send you some of our weather. Our highs have been in the 70’s for the last three days with lows getting down in the 40’s. Hope it warms up your way. My young girls are more like feral chickens. I got so many of them this time as opposed to my first group of only six. My young chicks are 5 weeks today and my oldest ones are 12 weeks. They sure do grow up fast.

Even with 7 sometimes I was feeling like I wanted to make sure they all got attention so they were friendly! Haha
3 are going to be going to my mom's house eventually, she lives a few blocks away. 4 will stay with me.

Hello, everyone! I'm not a newbie to chicken keeping (or to byc), but I will be starting my flock anew this year (my entire flock was lost in one fell swoop to predators in November, and so after taking some new security measures we're all set to restart this March)
I'd love to hear about everyone else's chicken journies and experiences, especially if they involve cute chicken pictures :)

And an extra warmhearted welcome to all new byc-ers!
To those starting their first flock this year, I hope everything goes smoothly, and I can't wait to hear about it:pop

(edited for spelling mistakes- whoops!)
I'm also a repeater starting fresh!

Have you decided which four you are going to keep? How great that you are sharing with your mom, what a fun experience to do together!

Hi there I am a complete newbie! Got 4 chicks yesterday and everything is going well so far- we have one chick that has has the pasty poop that was sticking to the back feathers- her poop is now fine but it was sticking to her back yesterday- she started to pluck out her own feathers as if she was trying to get the poo off of her (probably bothering her) but the poop has come off once I used a warm water and qtip-she is still plucking at her vent (or as far as she can reach) but the poo is gone. She has a pretty bare spot now but no blood- not sure what to do any suggestions? Sorry for rambling
