I’ll join the Newbie Chat! We just started our flock a few days ago. I am already a victim of chicken math. We agreed that 4 would be a good starting number, decided to get 6, ya know, in case we lost a couple. Well that turned into wanting 6, but getting 8, ya know, just in case we lost a couple. Pickup day arrives and we go to get our 8 chicks and lo and behold, we are offered a free chick. So 4 chicks + ?? = 9 chicks!!

2 Light Brahmas
2 Black Australorps
2 Barred Rocks
2+1 EE’s.

5/9 have already been named.

PICTURE DAY! 2 weeks old.

Chick #1 is a brown Naked Neck. This one is very bold and aggressive. It’s bitten me 3 times now. I need to teach it some respect before it starts hurting.

We had a Naked Neck - accidentally. He hatched out of a shipped egg and that egg was labeled “Austrlorp”. We named him Sluf, short for Silly Looking Ugly....Fella. What did you think I was going to say?
:gigyou always crack me up Blooie!
They are so ugly that I like them. Some people swear they're great layers.
Definitely a conversation piece for the yard eh?
I'm hoping I get at least a couple of pullets out of this bunch.
