2018 Newbie Chat!

Sadly the little Orpington didn’t survive.
I just think there may have been something wrong internally.
I’m going to look for a few more LF chicks to put with the remaining Orpington because I plan to separate the bantam chicks out.
So sorry to hear of your loss. It's so heart breaking to lose one.
I hope you find some nice ones to keep the other one company
:hugs

It sounds like such a good place. I understand you taking some absence from here. I'm so sorry it came down to this but it truly sounds like you have made the best choice for them and it came from your heart. I've followed the page and it seems like such a happy place for them to be able to go around as they please. The fact that the owners are putting your mind at ease and understanding lets me know you made the best decision possible under the circumstances given. Sending big hugs to you!
Thank you so very much! :hugs

Awwwwww hun :hugs so sorry your little one didn't make it, sounds like she came to you already ill, especially with how her umbilical chord was - so glad she was with you for the short time she had left and not still stuck in the chick bin at the store, cos she got to experience good love and care probably for the first time in her life. So sorry for your loss hun :hugs

One of the chicks is very noisy, meaning it’s lungs are developed enough to take in oxygen. It’s only a matter of time!!!
Yay!!! I’m so excited for you! :ya

I’m starting to think about incubators now.
I just love doing this as a hobby.
And incubating my own birds eggs just sounds so fun and interesting.

By the way, Bootsie is even more broody now so I’m thinking of seeing if she’ll adopt the bantam chicks.
Plus Mitzi is also becoming broody too but she just started so i’ll have to see how serious she is.

Hugs. Sorry for the loss of the little fluff. I was really hoping she would pull through.

Most problematic breed I’ve had. I had one try to roost in an impossible spot and she broke her leg in three places, had to cull her. They’ve all gotten bumblefoot. Messy eggs every single time. I’ve had one bite me and draw blood. Huge combs so if you live in a cold climate they are prone to frost bite. All of these problems occurred in just one single year of having them. Won’t ever get them again.
Ah ok thanks for the info. He definitely doesn't need the added medical costs of chickens with bumblefoot. How many did you have? We will probably just get him whatever TSC carriers this year. Lol. Congrats on the peeps!

I just found out that Dunlap Hatchery here in Idaho (it’s only about 45 minutes away from me) now carries Bresse chicks!
I’m excited about this because they’re famous for their meat and I want to cross them with Angus.
