2019 Emu Hatch-A-Long

Pics
so my second 10 have 16 days left, so they are 34 days in. i've noticed that if they tap during turning some have a different sound. it's a higher sound, like a china plate. is this the sound they talk about in the emu farmer book. The porcline (not spelled right) sound? anybody else ever notice and difference in egg sound? note: i not banging them together but they do occasionally bump and some sound different than others.
Yes the ones with chicks sounded like china to me when tapped wit a fork or metal the others clank. The egg will lean as well right around now. The air cell will be cooler than the other side too.

So I'm on Day 17 of hatching 5, nothing to sing and dance about yet but at least one seems to be giving off a smell already which worries me and I think another one too. They both sound very "clinky" like cups being tapped almost so I may have a couple of bad eggs. The other three seem to be doing okay but waiting on further advice regarding the former 2 before jumping to a conclusion

i had a stinker, oddly when i blew it out, it didn't smell any worse my other duds. anyway, i first washed it with a warm cloth to make sure the smell wasn't something on the outside. then checked it the next day to see if it was the culprit. also did a blind sniff test with my son and brother to make sure i had the right egg. lastly i moved it to a second incubator.
the "clinky" sound, i was under the impression that that was a good sound. so maybe the eggs you suspect are the good eggs and the other 3 are the stinkers. wow, none of my advice is helpful.

Quite the opposite, makes me feel a lot better because I've been worrying and deliberating! Does the washing not damage the membrane or is that just the float test if it becomes submerged etc? I'm going to get someone else to smell later and see whether they think it smells bad or plasticky since I noticed the small water container had no water but I'm not getting my hopes up! Thanks for the tips, and they were helpful!

Take 2. went back and read my emu farmers handbook. so section 10.4 seems to say that the "porcelain-sounding egg" is a bad egg. that is an egg with a tinny sound is mostly infertile. The "china" sound early on in the egg development means that the egg inner membrane isn't stretching because it is going rotten.
The positive "china" sound comes much later when the chick "pips" and breaks the internal membrane. like around day 45+.
so conclusion..early china sound bad...late china sound good

Other emu people...do i have this right??

The porcelain china sound is the sound I got on my sloshy eggs. I suspect they made the sounds like that because the membrane was pulling away from the shell. So in my case, they were bad eggs that made that sound.

But then right before hatch, they also will sort of make that sound, because the membrane pulls away as the chick enters the hatching position. So at the end of incubation, it's a good sound, and means the egg is getting ready to hatch.

I had to do some heaving to find this little guy! Luckily Denali is only showing aggression towards the other emus when they get too close. He lets me handle him fine.

This one looks like regular coloring. I have some concerns about ants, but until I get something set up I'll let him fully hatch the chick. I plan to take all the chicks from him to raise them tame (poor Denali).
