Hehehe, i was woken at 6am by the first hatching squeeks. I missed the zip. They like to be secretive. Nice surprise first thing though.

1 chick! The very last one to pip last night! It's dark brown.

:/ kinda worried about the first one. It still has 2 hours before it hits the 24 hour mark of being externally pipped though.
Is it peeping? If it is, you can help it along a little bit, just to make sure there's enough air. You may want to check the membrane, too. Once that dries out, it's pretty tough for the little ones to fight through it. A little Neosporin would help.

I took the cap off at 25 hours there was a little blood so I coconut oiled the membrane and put it back, it was definitely stuck. I waited to 28 hours and fully assisted. Nothing wrong with it other than being stuck. I now have 12 chicks. 1 hatched with a little bit of yolk out. Fully unassisted. :/ impatient little thing. It was one of the Marans too. I stuck it in the brooder with the rest of them hopefully it'll dry up and be perfectly fine.

I did lose one of the bantam eggs that made it to lock down. I don't know what happened to it, all the bantam eggs had movement on the 18th. The shell got green spots on it through the day today so I grabbed it out when I was taking out one of the chicks. Candled and it was dead.

:( for the lost bantam, but Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy for the rest! We need baby pics!

Mavis (cuckoo marans) has 8 chicks now. Beazley (buff orp) & Maris (also a cuckoo marans) pooled their eggs (which sucks, as they started sitting several days apart). They have hatched at least 8 & are still taking turns sitting on the remaining eggs. I can't tell how many chicks are there because Maris bites. :D
Lucy Langshan is sitting on 7 or 9 (I forget) they aren't due to hatch for another few days.
