That is the point where i must make a harsh decision: I cannot have a duck that would be entirely unable to fend for herself. At least she must be mobile enough to eat and drink. My job requires that i am traveling for 4-5 days out of town and my wife doen't have the time to care for a duck full-time. If anybody wants to give a nursing-home to this duckling, i'll be happy…
Forest can be Gil's sibling if forest can't fend for itself!!!!!!!!
I VOLUNTEER!
If a vet or vet school can be found, may I suggest the obvious? Additional funds may be needed in addition to what the vet/school will donate. There are enough people following this thread that a go fund me would be helpful.I was thinking the same thing - but if Gil needs a friend I think that's great!! I have a cousin who is a vet and I can ask him to refer us to a good avian vet who could take a look at that leg if you're interested @WannaBeHillBilly - there are even programs Va Tech that are free since it's a vet college. Not trying to butt in because this is your baby and your decision, but happy to make some calls if you'd like.
Normally i would not put a two day old duckling into any water, not even supervised! They have absolutely no water protection, Forest was soaking wet after just three minutes and had to be rescued and rubbed dry with a wash-cloth - which she enjoyed!Maybe put a buddy in with her too? See how she does floating but be ready if she can’t stay upright.
Herself! She is a tough girl! I'm sure if she survives she will grow hair on her bill…Forest can be Gil's sibling if forest can't fend for itself!!!!!!!!

Friends in WV would be the best! I can't drive longer distances at the moment due to that [censored] leg!Soooooo cute!
I figured as much about the job options, kinda having a hard time here even... but I have friends in wv, so was thinking about it.
As far as i know, there are no avian vets anywhere close to Charleston West Virginia. - Virginia (without the West) is a three hour drive from here, don't know if i can make that.I was thinking the same thing - but if Gil needs a friend I think that's great!!
