3 week old chick

well I am just trying to be optimistic. Did come across a dr on here that sells decrowed roosters and can decrow one if you ship it to him! don't really like the idea of shipping him back and forth!

Hi LittleChick12
I have a more dramatic case and I am urgently looking for tips. I had a hatch of 8 dwarf chicken. One got hurt most probably by the others since it was the weakest. Found it before it was dead and now trying to raise it but it does not eat by himself. Any valuable tips what I can do. I am at this stage force feeding but it brakes my heart. Would love to hear what other alternatives there are. Trying to get the little chick stron enough to rejoin the rest.

Way too small to throw in with an established flock by itself.

If it were me I would try and set up a safe area /mini run for it within the main run. Somewhere it can see the other chooks and they can see it but where the others can't hurt it. I would put it out there with them of a day but put away at night again wherever you have it now.

It will allow it to have company safely and it will also let the others get used to it so it will go smoother when you do put them together.

Keep it in the mini run until it is a similar size to the existing flick and therefore able to defend itself while establishing itself in the pecking order.

Hi Apps,

I was very brave just now and took it to the run and put it in. The hen tackled it and started picking on the little one so I guess there is something wrong with it or is it just that she does not recognize it yet as hers.
If I put it in a safe corner, which is possible how will it learn to feed. It does not eat or drink on it's own because no one showed him how. I am scared it will starve. Today we have sunshine but since it is winter in Namibia we normally have fog at the coast. The little brat might not survive this

I try to teach my chicks/chooks

by tapping my finger in the feed, is this one too small for that to be a try? being it is a dwarf? Also dipping the beak in the water a couple times, is another way to teach them to drink...is that a possibility? Poor little thing

Hope you can get it on it's feet, so to speak, so it can go back to mamma...best of luck and best wishes for a good outcome!!!

Oh had another though, not sure what size your baby chook feed is, but I used a blender and made a mash( a ground very fine feed) of the crumbles we have here for ours,( some of mine seemed to not be able to eat the crumbles, almost like it was too big, another thing people do is wet the feed with warm water, and try to feed that way too, you are doing a great job with getting food into it. Hope it keeps going well for you!

Dear Mithious,
I received a dust mob out of green ostrich feathers a while ago as a present, this is my mommy. Now about half an hour ago I saw the little thing picking on it so I went and got some wheades they love. In this process she ate some baby cereals, corn and green and she had a few sips of water. Seems like she is willing to make it. Hold thumbs everybody. I'll try and make a photo of it and post it but since it is week it always vanishes infront of the lense. Her wounds are healing rapidly as well so lets just keep all fingers crossed that it will work
