quick question- do chicks have to open their mouths to peep? and why do they rub their beaks on the ground lol?

They open their beaks to either just cheep louder or because they don’t like something. they say it's just for fun lol! I was jut wondering if they were trying to get their egg tooth off...No, they sometimes make a ton of noise without appearing to open their beak at all.
I've never asked any of them why they rub their beak on the ground. Wonder what their answer might be?
