No, they sometimes make a ton of noise without appearing to open their beak at all.

I've never asked any of them why they rub their beak on the ground. Wonder what their answer might be?

They open their beaks to either just cheep louder or because they don’t like something. Chickens rub their beak on the ground to either file it down or because there’s food caught on their beak.
