two were both fatty liver disease confirmed by necropsy.

We process our chickens for eating, so fatty liver I could probably identify (including the reasons leading up to it). But there are a lot of other things that will go majorly missed to the untrained eye... as I can verify through my experience of raising different breeds and even just chickens really. When you know what you are looking for, things just POP out at you.

We decided to forgoe the necropsy. It was too expensive.

No. She wasn't laying and was freakishly thin.
She was only 4 months old.
