4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

cochin, did you ph test and all the chem tests yet?
Yeah, I was actually going out to do my weekly water test when I found them. Then I tested 3 times to make sure the results were accurate. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates, 0 chlorine, soft water (imporves gill fuction), and the ph is about 8. It's pretty alkaline, but I've raised koi for years with that ph with no problems. I'll be calling around to some koi experts to try and figure out what went wrong. From examinating, they all died very suddenly. Like maybe within 4 hours of each other and the 3 I found alive weren't very responsive at first. I've seen many things throughout the years of koi keeping, but I have no idea what happened. Like I said, no signs of bacteria infections, fungal infections, or parasites. They look like they should still be swimming. And the other weird thing is that not a single one of the 30 goldfish that were with the koi in the garage died.

Thanks for trying to help Sally!

Cochins,
Check with my brother-in-law. He has a pond supply/hosta nursery. His web site is http://www.inthecountrygardenandgifts.com
You can e-mail him at [email protected]

His name is Josh

You are joking, Right?

Nope! Went down to my local Whole Foods store, picked up a carton of 12 organic freerange eggs that were fairly fresh, and popped them in the incubator. Fun stuff! The last time I did it, I got 2 out of 4 eggs all the way to day 15 before my stupid cheap incubator had a hissy fit, and killed everything inside. When I did an eggtopsy, I found two yellow chicks. So whatever Whole Foods uses to lay their brown eggs, it's a white bird, or a red SL of some sort.
