You peopel are KILLING ME! I'm afraid to candle those tj's eggs.Alright alright, I broke and finally candled. I'm really amazed about the fertility of these grocery store eggs! I think almost all of them are developing! I 100% for sure see development out of 7 of them. Crazy stuff.![]()
Welcome! You are out for some of the contests, but welcome on the thread and on the others. glad you found us!This started on the 14th? Man, if I had known. I set some little barnyard mixes on the 14th..too late for me? I will go enter anyway, see what happens.
Well, one is NOT a barn yard mix. The guy I got the eggs from has Nankins. He gave me one egg..free.Hope it's fertile!![]()
My 7...
My old, very old, very first old, incubator. I just sold all of my other
bators. I needed to slow down! I just love baby chicks! Kept my
older one here. Had a 100% hatch in that thing! I was just going to
give a try after not having used it for incubating to see if it would give
me a few..12 out of 12..an old still bator. Just trying it out!![]()
Now, hoping these will work.
I want a couple of good LF egg layers. The Nankin? I've hatched them
before, not sure I will keep it if it hatches though. Ahem..yes, I have
weights in there! And yes, they are paper punches. I got rid of most of
my craft things too..but these worked well to keep that darn wire down.
I didn't want to poke holes in it with something to hold it down..so, this works.![]()
yes, as Ron said tell My pet chicken the eggs were not packed acceptably. Putting eggs so they can bump together is unacceptable. Also complain about the stinky eggs. A company that contracts out like that needs more feedback, because they don't see the work.I stopped at my local post office on Friday to buy stamps for Christmas cards. I figured I would just ask them to check for my shipped eggs too, just in case they came in on a later delivery. They didn't have anything there for me. This morning I got a call that my eggs where there and I could go pick them up! They get so much mail this time of year she was working on a Sunday and remembered I had stopped in asking about eggs on Friday! So nice of her to think to call and let me pick them up today instead of waiting for them to be delivered by the mail carrier tomorrow!![]()
So now I have 12 partridge penendeseca eggs resting. I ordered them from mypetchicken, looks like Gabbard farms supplies this breed for them. 14 were sent, one was leaking and another was cracked. Packing wasn't the best, two eggs each in a bubble wrap bag with a small piece of paper towel between to keep them from banging into each other. Not double boxed either like all the eggs I've gotten from people here on BYC, just two layers of large bubble wrap on each side. I candled and it looks like 3 have good air cells and the other 9 are detached. Keeping my fingers crossed on those 9.
I'm expecting it will be sometimes after Tuseday, during week 2. Not sure of the exact date, however. But thats the ballpark goal. When will we know how many eggs were set?
They were in their winter dormant state so they hadn't been fed for 2-3 months. Once water temperatures get to 50 degrees or below, you're not supposed to feed them. I then worried that what if water temperatures got to high and I was supposed to be feeding them, but that wouldn't explain them dying at the same time and after I warmed up the surviving fish, I tried to feed them but they didn't seem interested in the food. I'll try giving some food to them again tomorrow. Ciclids are very pretty, do you still keep them?
We also have well water but we have never had a problem with it. I can see how buying distilled water would get expensive fast! I couldn't imagine doing that with my 125 gallon! Or the fish pond, 4000 gallons! Some people that are really into the hobby (and have money) install systems into the aquariums for a constant supply of distilled water. No, unfortunately. We have well water, and I was buying jugs of water, 25 gallons at a time. Just couldn't afford it anymore.couldn't eat them, so they had to go.
Ohh, how sweet! Beautiful story!i had four millie fleur d'uccle chicks hatch friday yesterday morning i went out to the broodie pen and found the last one born out of the nest smashed into the the woodchips. i was going to go bury it but i remembered my proficy which is to check if they have a heart beat before burying them, so i checked and heard the faintest of heart beats. i ran inside and held it up to the heatlamp i have ready for my baby bobwhites when they all hatch, it dtarted to gasp for air.i placed it in the incubator with the bobwhites went out to finish feeding watering and letting everyone out which took about 3-4 mins went back in it was completely dry and up and cheeping it has spraddle legs though. Im calling him lucky.(i already know it is a boy)Lucky already knows his name and comes when he calls. He is my miracle chick
