4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

No if I found that, I would cull. Something really wrong there. Everyone looks healthy, no nasal discharge, no vent discharge and nothing in the eyes. Plus they keep running up to me like I have peez dispenser of scratch. The blood was a trail of fresh blood and congealed pellets of blood clots (small) and none of it was on the roost.
Could it have been from someone's (or a couple of them's combs) When i had multi roosters together they used to peck at each others combs and it looked like a blood bath, but combs heal SO fast, so they were always fine. The would of course eat from my white feeders when their combs we bloody and them make them look like a disaster. Im sure you have already looked at this but just a thought..

Quote: I'm stumped, No none of that, I have one cockerel and 8 hens and 11, 10 week old chicks. They are in a coop that has 64 sq ft inside and a run that is over 300 sq ft and they free range. No one had anything wrong with them, I didn't find a dead mouse either. No one is acting sick. I wish some was then I could narrow it down.

I would think one of them or more, is either expelling the blood via their vent, or is vomiting blood via their beak from something internal, that you can't see...especially if there was fresh blood there when you fed them, it doesn't sound like they ganged up on a predator. I would check their vents and inside their beaks. Whatever it is, I hope you are able to find it soon, and that it is something that can be remedied. :(

You wouldn't have found the mouse if it was one. Chickens love to eat them.

Check their feathers. I have west of england tumbler pigeons. They have feathered feet, like cochins. One broke a foot feather once, and sprayed the whole cage with blood because of it. Amazing there's that much blood in such a tiny bird, and it all came out of one little feather on it's foot.

I got a very unpleasant wake up this morning. My brother's 13 year old cat was killed by a dog (or dogs) sometime last night. We suspect a small pack of feral chow are to blame. Goliath's 15 year old aunt, Purry, was killed earlier this year and dad's cat Cleo was lost just a few months ago. We think it was all by the same dogs. The only dog we ever see roaming is just out walking himself since his older owner no longer can, but he's a small breed that's never shown any dislike for our cats. The dog (or dogs) in question destroyed my dad's burn pit to get to the cat. Now, out of that bloodline of cats, we only have Goliath's 15 year old mom, Smudge, left. We keep losing our cats to this pack of dogs and I'm sick of it. We never see them and we're never awake when it happens.
Oh this is horrible! I'm very sorry for your loss.

Well I have ten eggs resting and another 6 missing in the postal service. The Delivery confirmation had them scanned in NY on Monday, but they disappeared after that. They were supposed to be delivered on Wednesday, but haven't turned up. I sure hope they get here tomorrow!

It certainly never gets easier. I'm glad Smudge doesn't go outside much anymore. For the most part she stays on the counter in the kitchen. The rest of the cats are acting weird. Mouse won't come out of the bathroom, Trouble (the only cat we have that isn't fixed) keeps coming in the house and won't leave the yard like he normally does, Mia keeps pacing between the back porch and the fire pit. The only cats that are acting normal are the two cats that live in the house full time. We're down to six cats and we started the year with nine.

I always worry about Trouble, but it seems like he's the only one that's really safe.

That's

I'm glad they're staying close to home though!

That's so weird. If you find the problem, please let us know. You did do a head count, right? Make sure they're all there?
yes, haven't seen one egg out of five hens ( plus three males ) in at least a month to two months.

Oh, the males won't lay eggs, you know...........

Ugh, I blame the season. I have eggs coming from just 50 miles away, they should have arrived yesterday, but didn't. If they're not here tomorrow, then they'll be MIA too......... Mail usually gets here from anywhere in California next day.
