We have a 5 day old bantam silkie that appears to have Wry Neck. Her little head hangs and she walks backwards a lot. We have been giving her a mixture or egg whites and vitamin E through a dropper, every 2 hours. She is able to eat and drink from her feeder/waterer now, so I think that is a good sign. I have her separated from the other chicks, for now. She has dried egg white on her little chest and she keeps trying to peck it off. I don't want to wash it off and give her a chill. Any advice on this or other tips for Wry Neck in Silkies would be GREATLY appreciated. This Chicken Mama's heart can't take another baby passing away. I was all to pieces yesterday. It was surprising to me how emotional I was over something I had only known 2 days. Please HELP!

Sounds like you're doing more or less what I would do. We use nutridrench specifically, but the idea is the same. If she is eating, I would say that is a good sign.

The egg whites you're giving her are cooked? Any reason you're not giving her cooked yolk? It contains more selenium than the white part does.

Hoping for a good outcome for this baby!

She will not eat the yolk or the white if it is cooked. The vet said to use raw egg whites until we get the Rooster Booster. We are also using medicated feed at the advice of the hatchery. The vet just told me not to give them the medicated feed as it causes absorption issues with certain vitamins and minerals, especially B vitamins. So, now we are getting non-medicated feed. Ughhh, I feel like I'm on a roller coaster of chick love. I have never been so worried about an animal like I am with these chicks...lol

Awe - it can be a roller coaster, especially when the information given is conflicting.

Raw egg won't hurt the chicken, but can sometimes lead to egg eating later, which is really hard to cure once they start. That is the only reason I always cook the eggs given back to the chickens.

I hope she continues to improve!

And welcome to BYC! :welcome

Oh wow, I did not realize that! I definitely DO NOT want that problem. My Hubby should be here any minute with the Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, so NO MORE RAW EGG for little Miss Grace! Thank you so much.

Grace seems to be doing much better today. She is holding her head up more, drinking and eating her crumble!!! I started giving her Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, per the vet's instruction, yesterday and I think it is helping. Hoping she continues to improve! Thank you all for your help and guidance!!!

So glad it's helping! She is beautiful! ❤️

It can take a couple weeks once you start squeezing gel tab in beak and giving raw egg yolk to see any change. Mine was older year old. 7 days started to be fewer spasms(seizure like) 9 days she started feeding a bit. I kept her inside and gave Vit E and raw egg yolk(she was eating crumblefood and drinking) for another week to make sure, until neck almost straight. Also in the beginning, I didn’t think it was good for head to be on ground so I put her in box her size width length with rags packed about chest height so most of the time her head was about heart level. It’s hard In the beginning to stay that way. Neck gyrates to floor. It looks almost like a seizure. Don’t force neck in any position. Hold loosely. I didn’t see any change at all till 7th day and then only because there were fewer spasms.
