Ya really.
sounds like a cute surprise in store there!!

Well I need a good site to get a good thermometer from. When should I get my incubator set up and going? How many of the spaces under the turning rack should I fill with water? It is a still air incubator. I think if this goes ok and I get atleast ONE chick I am going to buy a different incubator and become addicted like the rest of you. I guess I have the time for all of this now, they dismissed me from nursing school today for being at a facility that I was not assigned to in full uniform, I had no clue that was a rule. Guess I have more time for chickens.
I use the Brinses spot check. It is guaranteed to be accurate.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

My family may join!!! Our hen just started laying and they're fertile!!! I just need to order an incubator by that time!!! Any recommendations???

My OE are the eggs we will prob use if we join...one thing...she only lays one a day so when we collect enough eggs (we are hoping to hatch 5-6) what do you do with the others as you are waiting for more to be laid?!?! Do you just sit them on the counter at room temp and wait?!?!

Here is our OE.... And her eggs... Strange think we have 2 roosters but they are not her breed! It would be interesting to see what her chicks look like!!

Yup. You can save eggs for about 10 days before you set them to incubate, so if you collect all her eggs between now and the 11th, you'll have plenty to set.

Better get on that incubator, though. You need a few days to work all the kinks out of the system before you set the eggs.

Me, I'm still trying to get the kinks out of the system.

That is good news!

You will have very nice looking chicks. I hope the Silkie is the father. You might want to get a Genesis 1588 from Amazon if you have Prime. They ship fast!

Ugh. Me and this incubator are gonna go round and round, I can tell ;)

I should not be so nerve wracked BEFORE the hatching even starts!

I am really having trouble keeping this LG on point...it's a still air. I'm going to do a dry incubation. Any additional pointers on how to keep the temp steady? It's in the innermost room of my house, which stays at a pretty constant temp. No windows, no drafts.
