5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

My lavender orps finished hatching today. Here they are all fluffed up...

Now I can't wait for some bantam wyandottes! I'll need a break after the New Year's hatch. Just kidding

Ack. Just found out that our holiday plans may be changing. We weren't going to travel for the holidays, but now it looks as if we will. We'd be gone from home from the 20th till late on the 21st. My incubator doesn't have an automatic turner in it :/ Will it still be possible for me to incubate or should I sit this year out?

Sadly, I did not get them….lucky for me as they were a variety that I do not have already and I don't need yet ANOTHER coop to be thawing water containers for.

Quote: Oooooo….where do I find these? Are they on BYC BST? is Chooklit hatching with us? Does she have MF too? I'm trying to steer away from the Calico and get a deeper base color on my guys. Although MF are not a recognized variety, from what I understand, they can still be shown and just not get Best of Breed or make it to Champion Row (Best of Class). I have shown mine, and my kids use them for showmanship in 4H.

Oh nooooooo….there is no getting out of this! We will have NO deserters!, we are all in this winter chicken thing together…. There is no 'I' in team…..and so on and so forth..

But in all seriousness, one day of no turning will most likely not hurt. My last hatch, I'm embarrassed to say….someone unplugged the turner in mid hatch, I did not notice for over a week….guess what? still got chicks. I wouldn't recommend this, as I'm sure my Irish Luck had a LOT to do with it, but I think for one day, they'll be ok.
