Are you joining the hatch a long?

I am not sure :idunno  I posed in the maryland thread and looked on craigslist and i don't know where to get local eggs here.  I am thinking about trying trader joe eggs

Where are you in Maryland? I've got BCMs and OEs and am just over the line in PA...Chester County, is that any help?

Gardenin! 'Chicken thang'. You got that right, Chica!

Yay! Egg train :D

I see that you posted for Baltimore/Ellicott City. I am in Delta, Pa. Tuesday I'll be meeting up with Blarney, so if you feel like riding out to Delta, I can pick up some eggs for you.

So..... Count me out of this. I am likely going to have to cull chickens one by one. The one I injected yesterday was looking better today.... but she came off her egg and moved onto some golf balls so the egg is no good....... At least for hatching, it was pretty cold. But, one other chicken is showing signs of disease now..... SO far, all those that have been sick, have come from the same place.... So, we're going to cull one by one as they show symptoms, then hopefully some will survive .... I have grown attached, but especially to 3 of them, so I hope they make it. So far, they are ok. But, in spring, we may move the coop/build a new one, and keep these guys where they are 'til they pass on........

I'm continuing to become frustrated and almost feel like giving up because I Didn't think it'd be this hard!!!!!!!!!!

That's how it goes. If you don't check it, you will be 5 pages behind. I have to go bath chickens here, after dinner, to get them ready for the Dixie Classic. 12 chickens going to be a long night
Good luck! Hope you getting some ribbons!
P.S. I might P.M. you after the hatch for suggestions on washing/fluffing up their beards/muffs for a show. I have no idea how they get theirs so yucky. Only the hens, not the roo. It's weird.

I am so sorry!

Don't give up though. Clean everything up and wait the amount of time for the germs to die off--It is usually something like 6 weeks but check for what yours have.

Research bio security and get hatching egg from NPIP flocks.

Most importantly, any new birds that come into your flock need to be Quarantined for two weeks before they are exposed to your older chickens.

During that time, Worm them and dust for mites and lice.

ok, so do I pit the eggs evenly in the middle as I collect them? the book will help move it around so it doesn't get bad correct? if I do this, all fertile eggs sould be guaranteed to hatch?

I usually start on one side of the carton and just fill it up as I collect. Living in Floria I never really have to worry about humidity this time of the year. It is perfect for storing eggs. You do want to keep the eggs in a cool area (50-60 degrees.) Yes the book helps keep the insides from sticking to one side. So many things can happen during incubation so there is never a 100% guarantee that they are all going to hatch. I set 80 eggs last year for the NYD Hatch-a-long and only 35 made it to lockdown. 22 of them hatched.

Sorry ron....just talked with the fam and they all agreed we are in no position at the moment to incubate.... as much as id hate to say no, sadly ive got to. maybe next year??? but we will plan on getting some fluffies for the spring.

So sorry we cant to the hatch this year!!! thanks for all your help, time, and info you shared with me!!!

And My 5 Olive Egges laid 4 eggs yesterday! I am going to do a fertility check and start collecting eggs on Friday.

Fertility check? ronott1 can you please explain. I just got 12 Brahma eggs and would love to check fertility on them.
