5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Does anyone have a good cheat sheet? This is my 1st incubator hatching...
I just had a Broody set and she didn't do very well I had to take 4 chicks from her at the pip because she had killed 3 of them, one didn't get out seemed to dry. I did get 4 cute chicks...

I did a test run on my incubator which is a Farm Innovator 4200. It got to temperature and held well. What is a dry hatch? I thought humidity was very important?

Thanks....

I'm going to have to drop out of the hatch-a-long

My new incubator needs a few more tweaks before I set eggs, so I'll have to wait for the weekend.
It will be fun seeing everyone's peeper pics though.

You do not get off that easily!

Stick with us please! setting on the weekend is fine.

I also do a "dry hatch" but when you live in the south, there is no such thing as dry. Check out the humidities on this hourly forcast for tonight.

This is helpful. I use it to keep track of each hatch

my first hatch didn't go well either with my broody! she crushed a pip egg, but he still hatchd and was fine. it was crushed inward at his foot area. she also pecked two of my chicks on the head, leaving lumps. she also pecked and ate the egg off of my silkie rooser eggy. he is well!

Ok, so after 24 hours (more or less) in the baggie with the salt slurry my hygrometer reads about 79%. So, when checking my humidity in the bator using this hygrometer I should subtract 4 from whatever it reads to get the actual humidity?
