5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

This is why I love BYC... I feel NORMAL here!

The neighbors are always looking my way when they drive by and I'm with the chickens... I tell myself they're admiring my beautiful chickens.

...
Same here. They're looking to see what crazy s**t I'm up to now.
Once, I had a severe dog attack and my chickens scattered to the wind. The dogs killed 9 in minutes.
There's a retirement home nearby. A couple hours after the attack the retirement home owner came to my house to ask if I had chickens and if I was missing one.
I was irate and said I was missing a whole bunch of them. He said he had one at the home.
We went to retrieve it. He said a hawk had carried it over their courtyard and dropped it there. There wasn't a mark on the GLW POL pullet.
I asked him how he knew I had chickens and he said he didn't. He said "I only knew you had a lot of weird stuff up here so I figured you probably had chickens too."

I just set 60 eggs. 1 odd pure serama, 2 OE mix, 3 EE mix,10 bantam, and the rest assorted LF x bantam mixes. This is Daryl the

roo for them all (except the serama). This is the first time for hatching Daryl's offspring and I can't wait to see what I get. A few of my eggs are 13 days old do they have a chance of hatching or are they to old?

A few of my eggs are 11-14 days old. Fertility goes down after 10 days but they are still hatchable. Good luck. And you have a BEAUTIFUL rooster. I LOVE his color. I love bantam roosters, I took a pic of my JB roo this morn, though his color isn't as pretty as yours

I'm going to do it too, but only to about a quarter of the eggs. I'm setting around 40.
I'm going to split them up into groups based on egg age and sire. So I'll have a control. Still not thousands of eggs but I'm weird like that.
I have vitamin C but on my way to the drug store to see if they carry liquid ascorbic acid.

Fresh Fruit powder that is put on cut fruit to prevent browning is almost 100% ascorbic acid in powder form of course.

Daryl is GORGEOUS!

The older eggs could still hatch, though fertility will likely be lowered.
