Ok so I have brown egg layers a white egg layer and a maran. My rooster is ameraucana. Now olive eggers would be considered my maran with him or would I need maran with him then the off spring hen with a brown gene rooster? I call them all ee's just some are different shades lol. Except pure breeds.

I called about some ameraucana's when I was in Rochester yesterday to see if they was pure breed or EE's. They told me ""they are ameraucana if your looking for pure breeds those are called "wheaten ameraucana or blue ameraucana"" I didnt know what to say. Sorta like people adding an i in the name saying pure breed. I was wanting to try for some bbs ameraucana's so i could get some pure breeds going but wasn't going to drive an extra hour away when it seemed like they was selling ee's as ameraucana's.

He don't want that. I pronounce as bad as i spell. The sad thing is i read a lot just not out loud. I make up my own pronunciations. You don't want to talk chickens to me i'll butcher every name and leave you confused like "was he talking about leg horns or some sorta fog horn that lays eggs??"

I have been wondering about that to - does the first generation blue egg layer x dark brown egg layer = olive egger, or do you have to breed back to dark brown again to get olive?

Yes a blue layer x dark brown layer = a F1(first generation) Olive Egger. If you take that F1 Olive Egger and cross is back to a dark brown egg layer that offspring will be an F2(second generation) Olive Egger, and so on.

This was an assisted hatch... to low humidity I think. They were shrink wrapped in the inner membrane, piped 6+ hours ago, so I peeled back some of the cap to see why they had not unzipped and the membrane was separated from outer shell, so I gently peeled all the shell off the top and tore the membrain from around them, put them back in and let them kick themselves out of shell. That's why you can see blood in the front egg shell. If I had waited any longer they would have been stuck and died. It's a fine line when to intervein. These eggs were mail order and came from Fla to Va. all 8 are devolped and hope the rest pip soon.

Just wanted to make everybody jelous... I hatched these three BBS Orpingtons within the last few hours, still not dried off yet.

Man... they are peeping loudly!

And we have just started! It is going to be a long 3 weeks! Good thing I have 4 week old Marans and 8 week old Silkie chicks to keep me happy until the next ones hatch!

I am so hoping for eggs as pretty as those. My four marans eggs had either a CCL or an Ameraucana roo over them so I'm hoping for some beautiful olive eggs.
