Here is a picture of the bird who hatched 1st in NYD HAL 2014 CLL a gift from my cousin via Pappa Brooder (cousin got to name her, apparently his wife actually wanted the bird named after her !??!) Ahhhh, I want one!!! Sorry she looks shabby, she is the #1 favorite of all the Roos ... ;/ Happy Yule YA'LL & here is what I mean about major distraction from candling etc. soon will be shoveling after these & 2 more...so nice of them to lower their heads so I could pet them...& not stepping on me that is cool too!

Your eggs should be fine. Have faith!
Had a few heart palpitations here the other day when the thermostat to the guest wing went out (dead batteries needed replacing and I hadn't noticed) and the room was very visibly cooler to walk into... Like walking into a fridge. The bators, though, were still holding temps. Luckily I had been wrapping the old Miller styrofoam box with beach towels this hatch due to it being winter.

I think the deal should be pound-for-pound on the chickens and horses. Seems fair, right?

And now for some Christmas spirit....

Grandkids....PRICELESS

Deck the halls...or, at least, the incubators!

This is just the cutest! I have a few pics like this of my own kids, also nieces and nephews lol priceless (though I do feel bad they get scared of Santa)

Pretty babies. What's the plan for them? Are they broke to ride or drive? Maybe both?

Neither, they are just broke to lead atm (I put the halter on the gelding in the photo & he was very patient while I struggled to reach to buckle it)

My DH is kinda the animal-whisperer so the plan is they will be used for riding & hopefully also as a team to drive (pull a cart & maybe even plow).

We are hoping for good weather, we need to get groundwork done for a barn that is going in asap, was to be for adding cows, now it will be half horses!
It was all very sudden --on the way from getting the paperwork to have the barn done we ran into this situation of these 4 horses needing rehomed asap.
Complex but the current caretaker needs them gone urgently but was waiting to find the right rehome , esp. for them to go together.
We'd been talking about horses forever & everything just fell into place. The 3rd is a Quarterxdraft who when broke will be the right size for me. (My DH is 6ft7, 428# so requires a huge horse) The 4th horse is a Clylesdale stallion, we'll be his 9th re-home, he was badly treated as a colt but the DH is optimistic that he can build a relationship & ride him eventually, although likely he will be the only person who will ever be able to ride him but that is ok for us.

Good luck training the horses. How old is the stallion? Too old to geld?

I think my horses have definitely helped with getting further into chickens...when I asked my husband if I could get some hatching eggs, he was surprisingly quick to say ok. I have been hinting for awhile that we need another broodmare (I have a small breeding business) and he has been less than thrilled with that idea. So I think he was thrilled that I was asking for something so much smaller and less expensive.

I may have to remember this tactic in the future!

I candled again tonight. I had a few questionable eggs during the 7 day candling, but I put them back in because I wasn't really sure what I was looking at. After watching youtube videos on candling (don't you just love youtube!), I had a better idea of what was what. So I pulled 2 more eggs that had bloodrings and of my original 8, I have 5 still in the 'bator. We were able to see the chick moving a lot in one of them, that was really cool to see!!
