6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Did my four eggtopsies and I'm glad I did.. Interesting! Two died early, around the same time. One appears later, like it was preparing to pip. The fourth was malformed!! One eye and a horrible cross beak which appeared to have internally pipped.. Which would explain why the entire egg was black when I candled.. I have pics if you guys want.

on the ones due to hatch Saturday.

Solo (the only one out of 24 on-time set eggs to hatch) has got a set of lungs! No doubt the late eggs can hear the encouragement (or the panic)

Keep those darling chick pix coming!

When is your second set due? Soon?

My single chick keeps encouraging his pals too...

I'm really hoping that at least one of the other eggs hatches. When I was candling, the one who hatched was always further developed. The one on his right was always a little bit behind, so I'm still holding out hope for at least one buddy.

The report from home is that we are up to 25 chicks in the brooder, one CLC that pipped, and two non responsive eggs remaining. When my daughter and I started with 50 eggs in the Genesis, and culled them down to 29, I told my wife we would get lucky if 12-15 hatched (that is how I sold her anyway), but now we have way more than I know what to do with. It has been a lot of fun counting down the days/hatching report with everyone, and I have to get my wanted list up as I am already looking forward to the Easter HAL.
