6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

@hennible I will be interested to see how you like your incubator. I saw ones like it on ebay. Hope it works well for you!

Found better prices on amazon. I'll be putting eggs in it in a couple hours...

I will report back after I candle in a few days.
What are you setting?

I'm setting some farmers markets eggs, probably red sex links... Brown eggs... Plus a few of my own cross breeds. Cracked open a few farmers market eggs, they're fertile. Candled all of them and selected the best looking ones... The eggs I bought were laid yesterday, A few of mine are a bit old, from one of the hens I lost... We shall see.

I did not know that Trader Jo's sells fertail eggs, do think that the Denver Trader Jo's would sell fertile eggs, in the cold December?

Check with them because not all TJs have fertile eggs.

I hatched out three from a dozen a couple of year ago. They were very cute whit leghorns. Others have hatched out Austra Whites recently so they may be using a different breed now.

Wait until day 5 for the brown eggs to candle. They are much harder to see into.

I have a hard time seeing into the Penedesenca eggs.

Thanks Ron, they are not super dark... Some are sorta a rosy brown... I'll hold off till day five though.
It is very hard to wait....but much better for the eggs and hatching.

sometimes I have to slap my hands away from candling the eggs!
