6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

The cutoff for the set numbers is Saturday.

Hatching stress will be in effect but eggs shipped a long distance can hatch.

I hatched eggs shipped from Alabama via ground over a holiday weekend. It took, if I am remembering correctly, 8 days to get here. I had a good hatch with them too.
Alabama is awesome

We have a black Sizzle hen that has gotten VERY broody twice so far. Just so happened that we didn't have any eggs for her to sit on at those times. Hopefully next time we can take her up on it though. My bantam Cochins and Cochin/Silkie mix hens have been great with being broody mamas.

Would u recommend bantam Cochins as broody hens? I would like to get a couple hens that will go broody a lot so they can hatch out chicks.

:lau

I hope you have a great hatch!

X2 can't wait to see what they look like when they hatch

I know what u mean lol

Our experience with them had been positive. Both the Cochin's and the Silkie that we crossed them with were hatchery stock. The Silkies never would go broody for me, but I know other people do. We also have a little bantam lavender Ameraucana that is a fantastic fierce broody. She started before she was even 1 year old.

You can post them here. It is not a requirement.

We will need to see a picture of the chicks after the hatch.
Oh ok. Thanks.

Our two Broody hens, Buff Orpington (Goldie) and Silkie (Cotton).

I was able to get a picture of a few of the eggs under the Silkie. The Orpington was too far in the nest box for me to get pictures of the eggs she is on. Oh, and the white stuff on my finger is paint stains. I've been working on an extra nest box.

Arkansas I think.

I hope they are fine...May stop off at Trader Joes tonight just in case...
If you get TJ eggs and need someone to take a pullet off of your hands let me know. I saw in your later post that yours were packed similarly to mine....why do people skrimp on their packaging?? It makes me sad.

Fingers crossed for a nice selection of blue and splash bantam cochin chicks to ring in the new year
I hope you have a great hatch. will you pm me please your egg source. I am so wanting to add a few cochin bantams and really would love to add splash and blue.

Ok folks...finally got all of my eggs in the bator. Birchen sea turtles, sizzle x duck billed platypus (f2), heritage show quality american alligator, and my project quail x bald eagle olive eggers.
please contact me after they hatch. I am doing a sea turtle/seagull project and want to outcross platypus for venom. I have been hunting for years to find someone who had them! The sizzle just makes them that more appealing...conversation starters ya know??

ok, so I have *i think* 22 eggs under my broody Muscovy hen. She started sitting on the 26th or 27th of november, so I think they are going to be right inside this hatch a long dates. Can I join in still? How does this work for me and my broody? I don't mess with her too much...

Editting to add, there could be a few more or less under there, she does not let me mess with the eggs much.

Yay be sure you tell Ron about your hatch rate and send pics so you can be in the broody contest. The odds are ever in your favor.
These are the little hen and roo...made of wood...not the clock. :p

Darling...what a great talent!

I would REALLY LOVE to see pictures of the broody hen hatchers hens sitting...pleeeaseee??? I just hatched five silkies just so I could have real live hen hatches!!! I ALWAYS use an incubator!

Sitting hens or duck pictures please!!!

I would post a picture of my eggs for the hatch along but they look the same as they did yesterday...

I will post a pic of my broody for the hal and my broody who is right this minute hatching a clutch. They are super sweet. I have one chick out and the other 5 are pipping zipping and cheeping

The shipped eggs were packed terribly!

Paper egg cartons, not bubble wrap on the eggs. the cartons were wrapped in large bubble wrap and the foam nugget spacers.

One egg was smashed and oozed onto two others.

Packed correctly, this shipment would have made it perfectly.

The yolk looked good though.

glad the yolk looked good but sorry you had to see it. big bummer

Hope you get a good hatch...mostly NOT for selfish reasons!

OMGoodness she is beyond beautiful. Where did you get her and can I get one?!? Seriously I have a huge crush on this broody! That baby is pretty sweet too

I have heard that If a bantam cochin sees two eggs in a nest box she is donezo and on the nest for the duration. Hence my desire to add a few. My silkies are great too they are either sitting, brooding or laying regularly.

Does anyone know when and where we are supposed to post pictures of our broody hens?
No "supposed to" but we all love broody pics so whenever you feel the urge please share

Want to get rid of a few of the wheaten Ameraucana/Ameraucana crosses that hatch?
What is BBS?

Might be interested in some silkies. Has anyone ever had sizzles go broody?
I think u got the same interpretation I did LOL
It seems I always have a sizzle or two broody all the time. A few months ago they where all broody.
