6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I did a fast candle this morning, since I thought my day was going to be busier than it will be. All but one looks really good. One is lagging behind, but isn't clear. All my girls are pullets and that egg is small and I noticed when I set it, it was really light. I wish I had thought to weigh it and compare to the others. My fridge eggs look to be developing the same as the others. I think they were in the fridge from 8-10 days. I hadn't intended to set them and my egg carton was full, so they were laying on their side in the carton lid and I didn't turn them. Mine lay on their side in the bator and the turner rolls them, so maybe they are laid back and relaxed eggletts (almost became omelets).

Happy Birthday Book

So i candled last night without taking the egg out of the bator and i had alot of big aircells, Too early for aircells that big i think so i added water to the bator to slow them down a bit, i didnt see any veins yet but i think that is because the eggs have only been set for a few days, shall see on day 7 for the chicken eggs and day 10 for the muscovy, thing with the muscovy is i'm not suppose to move them lol. i also had my autoturner off for the first 48hrs because i had shipped eggs. 3 had loose aircells and 1 had a detached aircell so i'm hoping thats why some of them look so big or because they are going to saddle air cells. i dont know i just hope i have a good hatch and i hope everyone else does too.

My roosters are silent until i turn on the yard light to let the dogs out before work then they start crowing, which is about 6:10-6:15 am so i'm fine with that.

i definately agree work gets in the way of keeping up on my threads, luckily i do this all day at work.

When I was out tending to my chickens this morn, the broody jumped off her nest and to my sad eyes I saw she has pooped on her eggs

I really hope it doesn't affect them. Fingers crossed bacteria doesn't enter the eggs and make the chicks die
