lockdown day lockdown day lockdown day lockdown day!

Okay, so I found a nest that a hen had left, so I put them in the bator. So far one has hatched and a few more look like they might in the next few days!

With a cut down egg carton and the eggs tilted back from the biggest part of the air cell, a wrong end pipped egg is usually visible. You need to make sure that the pip is clear of goo and then go read the guide to assisted hatching again.

The first post of this thread has links.
Thanks! No pips yet (wrong end or otherwise); just doing my ususal "what if" worrying. I went back and found the picture you had posted and I think I need to cut my cartons down more.

How neat! Any guesses on breed?

And it's lockdown.......

Not getting too excited as it's just ONE egg, the lone farmers market survivor.

If I'm fortunate, at least one of the remaining two late-in-the-mail eggs will join this one in a couple of days.
Hopefully won't have any solo chicks to contend with (at least not for long)

Going to candle tonight. Then, set them where I want them after penciling. They will pretty much be in lock down, but I do open the bator off and on during day 18 to get that humidity right.  Really excited for the small sizzle eggs..all that I had shipped to me are viable..there are 8.  Lock down is a scary time for those little eggs, I will be watching that humidity like a hawk!
Speaking of hawks, heard one out there screeching this morning, and my girls are out and about on the paths through the snow that my DH shoveled for them and the dogs.  Got my Golden R. out there to roam around for a while.  I hear this bird screeching often, not sure if it is a small hawk...coopers..or a falcon.  It sounds small.   I may have to keep my hens in the run for a couple of days.

I LOVE sizzles!!!! If we ever move somewhere with more space they will be my project. We have a few that we hatched out from our Cochin's and silkies. Mostly F1 and a couple F2. We just adore them. They don't have the biggest crest, but they are so sweet!
