7 year old suspended from school for shaping breakfast bar into "gun."

Way back... maybe 15 years ago? DH was going through some stuff and found pictures of some guns that were stolen a few years earlier. He gave the photos to the kids, DD took one to school and gave it to a boy in her class (maybe 2nd grade?). That night, this little boys mother called and yelled at DH about it. I mean she really was yelling. A bit over the top I think, though it was certainly her right to try to keep her son from knowing that guns exist or something.

North Dakota is one of a few states with bills introduced to allow concealed carry in the schools (and churches) with prior approval. http://bismarcktribune.com/news/loc...cle_c3e0a48e-7f92-11e2-8024-001a4bcf887a.html I truly doubt the schools up here would suspend a kid for making his food into the shape of a gun.

Must be the theme this week. I got a call from my 7 year olds school this week. Apparently my son had gotten in a tussle with another boy and threatened to shoot the other kid. He knows this isn't ok but I suppose forgot the rules in the heat of the moment. Anyway the principle called me and asked if we had guns in our home. This really threw me for a loop. I understand that emotions are high right now based on recent events but come on. I felt a bit like my privacy was invaded by the question. What if I had answered it wrong? I know this isn't as innocent as the kiddo in the story but it still seemed a little overreactive to me.  The story you posted is crazy...must be Portland.

Ahhhh... THE QUESTION!

Try taking a parent to the Veterans Hospital... That question is asked there too. Another way the federal government is finding out who has guns... Big brother is ALWAYS watching!

Overlook the ABC spin...

Ga is trying to pass a law to let school boards arm teachers if they want. An to let college carry along with churches an government buildings.

If you don't want to:

  • own a gun. Fine, don't, but leave me alone.
  • smoke cigarettes.Good for you, but leave me alone.
  • drink alcohol. Okay, but leave me alone.
  • get a tan. Right on, but leave me alone.
  • get an abortion. All right with me, but leave me alone.
  • eat meat. Than don't, but leave me alone.
  • use salt. Your choice, but leave me alone.
  • believe that two men or two women can't have a meaningful relationship. Believe what you want, but leave me alone.
  • make your own way without government interference. Whatever, but leave me alone.

If there's one thing I've learned in 70 years of living it's the fact that I can barely run my own life. I sure have no business telling others how to run theirs, and they probably aren't any better off in that respect than I am. That's why I gave up my position as Emperor of the Universe almost 40 years ago. All I ask is to be LEFT ALONE!

Letting college kids carry could indeed be dangerous, I have to agree with that. However, for the people who have sought treatment - voluntarily or otherwise - I think it should be a case by case basis. I know of some who sought treatment and don't feel that they are in any way a threat to anybody else. In my opinion, it should depend on what they were seen for as well as any drugs they are currently prescribed and possible side effects of those medications.

Quote: Why would it be dangerous? Something like 13 states have college carry. (would have to look it up again).

Also people put in to treatment is public record an have had due proses, people that seek treatment on there own have not had due proses an also have a protected right to privacy. An if you lose rights for seeing a doctor then people would stop seeing doctors.

Cant fix everything, that would require everyone to be locked in there own padded room.

My opinion, all these gun laws need to be thrown out. If I cant trust you in a world that has guns, I cant trust you in any world. Your ether safe to be walking the streets or you are not.

I am pleasantly surprised... I was basing my opinion on some of the young hotheads I was in the military with. Honestly, when they started drinking, I wouldn't have trusted them with a butter knife.

I am only saying that depending on the meds some of these folks are on - and if Zoloft is still on the market it's a big one on my list - they should probably stay away from firearms. Somebody close to me was put on Zoloft, he quit taking it very shortly after he started because he found himself hiding in a corner with a gun. He was convinced they were coming after him (who 'they' might have been, I don't know). Some of these meds can make folks act in ways they wouldn't dream of normally. Heck, for that matter, I was researching a particular blood pressure med for someone who was recently put on it. There are cases of folks on that med getting violent and shooting people.

When I was growing up, everybody had guns in their house, kids could access them, and the kids knew how to shoot and safely handle firearms. I don't remember there being that many shootings, but a lot of that may have to do with the internet.

The internet an news is a big issue. People think more bad things are happening cause they see it more. They also expect unrealistic things out of life cause of what they see. An they now know if they do something bad enough they will become famous...

Back to what this thread is actually about with a little humor added..
