Well, if you put that in the water, it would add nutrients and bacteria, and the good bacteria may or may not out compete the bad bacteria that is going to have a hayday growing in those added nutrients.  It would do the exact opposite of a penny.  Although personally I think most bacteria can handle copper, it's algae that can't, and really if your water has little nutrients in it, your biggest problem will be algae, not bacteria.

BTW - in case there was confusion, you add the penny to the incubator container for humidity control.  NOT the brooder where you keep the chicks
Why would you even drink that?!?    I'll sip an apple cider or a good mellomel once in a while (or christmas hot grog cider - oh god is that delicious!) but I've never seen the appeal of drinking alcohol, especially nasty (puke?!?) stuff.
