(pigeon egg shells are really thin so they are easy to see into)

My iPod flashlight is the best for candling but I had to use it to take a picture so I used a headlamp to candle which worked very well.

My rooster finally decided to crow. Guess he thinks he's the man now. Well, he is! The only one out there.

Hope he doesn't crow often, so I can keep him for a while. Have been gathering eggs from the one layer. I really want the RIR hen to start laying, then I will have pure RIR's.

freezer camp in his future if he doesnt. to be fair, we have had a few days in the single digits and low teens when the eggs were collected, may have had an effect, but hasnt been a problem with my other breeds.

This has been a wacky day... Wild winds blowing all manner of debris and branches from the trees... Pine cones dropping like bombs, freaked out birds, the power went out for an hour and my kid is sick with a fever and a sore throat. What the heck?

With the power out, the only thing I could get done was to wash the dog. Glad that is done and the incubator is back on. I wrapped it in a wool blanket and it got down to 90 degrees. Things seem to have calmed down now, we'll be chillin' and eating soup tonight.
