So I haven't had the time to keep up on this forum, but I wanted to say that my peepers decided to hatch a bit early! They started Monday night! I did have one get stuck before it could zip while I was at work and it didn't make it. I had 2 others that had incomplete closure of the navel and they passed within the past 24 hours. I have 1 last chick drying out right now. I'm thinking the others were quitters. I'll candle them tonight. I have 6 live chicks right now. Not a great hatch rate from 34 eggs, but turned out some were not fertile and I had a temp spike which I was sure killed them all, which managed to not kill them all, so I'm happy with any little peepers. And I'm happy to report that it would appear my polish would appear to have come out blue, which means my splash over black has produced bantam white crested blue polish! They are adorable. Once everyone is dry and moved to the brooder, I'll have to get some photos.

I thought I would have woke up to pips. I set Thursday night. But I didn't and I got a little nervous. So I cracked the incubator and listened and I could hear peeping! I don't know how many have internally pipped. I only know one for sure and it's the oldest egg. It was 1 month old when I set it! I thought it would be behind the rest, but it's actually ahead!
I've started doing this! Trying to put all the info into hatchabatch but I forgot to write down 2 eggs I added a day later. I'm going to have to really get organized if I'm going to hatch all winter! I don't know how you do it! Plus, you have broodys and their eggs. Like that little surprise silkie that hatched!
It's really a personal decision. I used to keep chicks in the incubator till hatch was over but now I move them fairly quickly. They are really rambunctious and knock into the other eggs and pips and seem to settle down when I move them to the brooder.
Yay!!! :jumpy

One of your silkie eggs was a month old when you set it?!? And it's about to hatch?!? That is crazy and awesome! Wow!

I can hear my Serama peeping a bit and it looks like I have a wrong end pipping Silkie. I am really hoping for paint and lavender chicks and most of all... girls!!
