Here’s a whole body pic…those wattles are definitely there. Hmmm…
Are you sure it's only 8 weeks? @Overo Mare you enjoy crushing people's dreams, one cockerel at a time. @Rhodebar Lover you are also usually pretty spot on at sexing. Judging by the first picture there was no doubt in my mind that the bird was a cockerel. I'm less sure now, looking at the bird's whole body, but for 8 weeks, in a LF Orpington I just think that's too much comb and wattle and too much red this early.

Thanks for the feedback. It’ll be 9 weeks Sunday.

You're in the mindset I live in with BC's. Our home grown, breeder birds mature much slower. You have to remember that this isn't one of yours. It's most likely from hatchery stock. Those hatchery birds mature at crazy rates.

I've seen some hatchery Lav Orps in particular get wattles early.

I personally think it's a pullet.

This batch of chicks is an order from my pet chicken, which I think sources from Meyers hatchery. Plus side of this is that they’ll refund your money on any that they missexed! Not that that solves the problem!

What are the lavender Orphington’s like as roosters? Do they tend to be really prolific crowers?
